ALARM DEVICES (INTERNAL USE)

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 Scope
This installation guide covers the minimum requirement to install the devices of Fire and Gas
Detection and Alarm System (hereinafter called FGS) for the plant, jetty areas and operation
complex.
This document covers the FGS field devices for all onshore facilities i.e. Process Area, Utility
Area, Offsite Tanks, Jetty Area, Operation Complex etc. of Ichthys Onshore LNG Facilities
Project to be constructed at Blaydin Point, to the southeast of Darwin, in the Northern Territory
(NT).
FGS devices inside the buildings and at HVAC air intake are out of scope.
Where location of these devices is limited due to congestion, the installation should be
adjusted but shall maintain the requirements of the devices. The installation of these devices
shall not cause obstruction on accessibility of nearby valves and instruments.

2. INSTALLATION GUIDE

2.1 Manual Call Point

Manual call points shall be strategically located as required by Section 2.5.1 of
L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas Detection System.
The locations of these manual call points are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed on Section 1.2.1 of this document.
Manual call points shall be installed approximately 1.5 m above grade. When installed in the
ground level and along access roads, it shall be located minimum 3 m away from hydrant and
approximately 1.5 m from the edge of road shoulder, same with the hydrants. The pull handle
shall be facing the road or access way.
Refer to Section 3.1 for the typical installation.

2.2 Flame Detector

Flame detectors shall be provided for area monitoring and specified equipment monitoring as
required in Section 2.5.3 of L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas
Detection System.
Flame detectors should be of Multi-Spectrum Infra-Red (MS-IR) type.
The locations of these flame detectors are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed on Section 1.2.1 of this document. The location and number of flame detectors will be
confirmed by the fire and gas mapping study.
Flame detectors shall direct downward for target equipment/area to avoid malfunction due to
solar radiation. The final height of these flame detectors will be determined during the fire and
gas mapping study.
Maintainability shall be considered for the location of detectors.
Refer to Section 3.2 for the typical installation.

2.3 Flammable Gas Detector

2.3.1 Point Type Flammable Gas Detector

Point type flammable gas detectors shall be used to detect flammable gas where required in
Section 2.5.4 of L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas Detection System.
Point type combustible gas detectors shall be Infra-red (IR) type.
The locations of these gas detectors are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed in Section 1.2.1 of this document.
Point type flammable gas detectors shall be placed at a distance of approximately 1 m from
the potential source of gas leak with a height of approximately 0.6 meters above the grade
where the detector is mounted.
The location and number of flammable gas detectors will be confirmed by the fire and gas
mapping study.
Refer to Section 3.3.1 for the typical installation.

2.3.2 Beam Type Flammable Gas Detector

Beam type flammable gas detectors shall be used to detect flammable gas where required in
Section 2.5.4 of L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas Detection System.
Beam type flammable gas detectors shall be of infra-red (IR) type.

ALARM DEVICES (INTERNAL USE)

The locations of these gas detectors are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed on Section 1.2.1 of this document. The number and location of these gas detectors will
be confirmed by the fire and gas mapping study.
These combustible gas detectors shall be installed such that the distance between the
transmitter and the receiver shall not exceed 60 meters. The height of these gas detectors
shall be minimum 2.3m (above head clearance) to minimize the nuisance alarm.
Maintainability shall be considered for the location of detectors.
The number, location and height of these gas detectors will be confirmed by the fire and gas
mapping study.
Refer to Section 3.3.2 for the typical installation.

2.4 H2S Detector

H2S gas detectors shall be used to detect H2S gas where required in Section 2.5.5 of
L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas Detection System. Where point
type flammable gas detectors are located, additional H2S detectors need not be provided.
H2S gas detectors shall be of semi-conductor type.
The locations of these gas detectors are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed on Section 1.2.1 of this document. The installation height shall be approximately 0.6
meters from the ground or platform.
The number and location of these gas detectors will be confirmed by the fire and gas mapping
study.
Refer to Section 3.4 for the typical installation.

2.5 Low Temperature Spill Detector

Low temperature spill detectors shall be used to detect low-temperature on areas where
cryogenic spillage is foreseen as required by Section 2.5.6 of L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project
Specification for Fire and Gas Detection System.
Low temperature spill detectors shall be RTD thermal element type.
The locations of these spill detectors are identified on the Fire and Gas Detection Layouts
listed in Section 1.2.1 of this document.
At least two (2) spill detectors shall be provided in each LNG/LPG impounding basin.
Temperature element of these detectors shall be located above the lowest point of the spill
impounding.
Refer to Section 3.5 for the typical installation.

2.6 Visual Warning Device

Visual warning devices (VWD) for fire alarm and gas alarm shall be provided in the field as
required by Section 2.4.7 of L790-AF-SPC-0001, Project Specification for Fire and Gas
