LEARNING OUTLINE
Pre-lesson:
Warm up: Categories - Pupils brainstorm films of different categories (types). Ask pupils what kind of film they like
watching. (21st CA)
Lesson development:-
1. Pupils look at the pictures and decide what kind of story it is. (Activity 1)
2. Refer pupils to the pictures on pages 60-61. Pupils read the story quickly to check their ideas. However, encourage
pupils to relax, sit comfortably and read the story at their own pace. (Activity 2) (HOTS)
3. Ask pupils if they enjoyed the story. Encourage them to give reasons for their answers and to explain what they
liked (or didn’t like) in particular. (CBA)
4. Pupils look at the vocabulary panel on page 60 and find the words in the text. Pupils guess the meaning of the

5. Pupils identify the main theme of the story. Extend the discussion of the importance of playing outside as well as

1. Connect sentences into two coherent paragraphs or more using basic coordinating conjunctions and reference
pronouns
2. Understand with little or no support longer simple narratives on a range of familiar topics
LEARNING OUTLINE
Pre-lesson:
1. Review key vocabulary or ideas from the story in Lesson 65 that pupils found challenging using an activity from the
pre-lesson task list in Section 3.
Lesson development:-
1. Ask pupils to remember the names of the characters in the story from Lesson 65. Then ask them about the theme of
the story.(HOTS)
2. Pupils read the story on pages 60-61 again and complete the activity individually. However, play a recording of the
story or read it yourself, rather than have pupils read. Make sure that they sit comfortably, just as they did when they
read the story in the last lesson. (Activity 1)
3. Pupils underline the correct answer. Check answers and refer to the written text in Pupil’s Book, pp.60–61. (Activity
2)(CBA)
4. Highlight the use of because which links two ideas in a sentence in the examples in Activity 2 to give a reason. Elicit
the meaning of so and but. Give pupils one or two examples to demonstrate and contrast the meaning of the words.
5. On the first worksheet, have pupils work in pairs to match the sentence halves on the worksheet. Then they add a
suitable linking word, e.g. [Susi wanted to play inside] because [it was raining]. / [Grandma invented a cool robot]
but [she couldn’t invent a flying machine.] / [Suddenly, the sun came out] so [Ruby went outside.] (21ST ca)
6. Pupils write their answers in full sentences using conjunctions (check they are punctuated properly), after
discussing with their partner. Monitor and gather common mistakes to use in the post lesson stage. (Activity 3)

LEARNING OUTLINE
Pre-lesson:
1. Introduce the topic of transport by following the instructions for Warm-up: Secret words in the Teacher’s Book,
p.102. Leave your drawings on the board.
Lesson development:-
1. Working with words – pupils read out informations in the blue box. Pupils focus on adjectives with suffixes -ful and -
less.
2. Ask pupils to give an adjective with -ful or -less for each picture on the board. (HOTS)
3. Elicit some comparatives using the adjectives. If necessary, introduce sentences with (not) as …. as…
4. Use the video or read the sentences yourself. Draw attention to the weak sound in as - /əz/. Explain that this weak
sound is the most common sound in English. For example: She has been to the UK. (/həz/, rather than /hæz/; That
dog is fearless (/fɪələs/, rather than /fɪəles/. Note too that comparative -er is usually weak too. (Activity 1)
Drill the sentences, focussing on this weak sound. It is called a ‘schwa’ sound. Focus on recently learned language
(present perfect and comparatives as…as).
5. Hand out the worksheet. All sentences include at least one weak sound. Pupils listen and mark the weak sound.
Have pupils practise saying the sentences using the weak sound.
6. Pupils underline the correct answer. Pupils fill in the gap. (Activity 2)(CBA)
7. Have pupils practice reading the text aloud with a partner. The partner listens and raises his/her hand when he

1. Cooler: Getting around – Write on the board: air, land, water. Devide the class into small group. Each group wtites
as many different types of transport for ach category as they can think of. Each group reads out their list.
Lesson development:-
1. Pupils talk about different transport. They can use ideas of transport from Step 1 as well as from the Pupil’s Book,
p.63.
2. Ask pupils how they get to school. Ask some follow up questions about their journey to school every day (e.g. how
long it takes/costs, what they do on the journey, etc.)(HOTS)
3. Pupils listen to the dialogue which introduces the new language. Activity 1
4. Pupils practise the new language in a controlled way. (Activity 2)
5. Pupils talk about their journeys to school using modified adjectives. (Activity 3)(CBA)
6. Warm-up: Shall I take the bus?- devide the class into groups f four. Each group discusses the advantages of a
different means of transport. each group comes to the front to present teh advantages and disadvantages of their
means of transport.
During the presentation stage, have pupils conclude by saying whether they think people should or shouldn’t use
the mode of transport, e.g. …so we think people shouldn’t use their cars for short journeys because it is harmful to
the environment. They should walk because it is healthier and not harmful to the environment. (CCE: Environmental

but change snacks to carbohydrates. Explain that food with carbohydrates gives us energy e.g. potatoes and bread.
Pupils find how often rice, pasta, chips are in the text (2, 3, 3 times). Explain the importance of eating something
from each category of food but in different amounts. Ask: Which food / drink is the heathiest? (fruit, vegetables,

that the four students like. Pupils look at list of food in table again. Ask: Which food is good for your health? (chicken
salad, fish, vegetable soup). Explain food made from milk is called ‘dairy’. Ask: Which food is made from milk?

2. Pupils do Activity 5, CD2.04. Pupils read ‘School Food’ texts again. They find the person who doesn’t like
vegetables; (girl from UK); who really likes pasta, chicken pieces and water (girl from Spain).

4. Pupils do Finished? Divide class into two halves, A and B. Pupils in A write a perfect school lunch; pupils in B write
a horrible school lunch. When finished they find a partner from other half of class and compare lunches. Choose

1. Write on board: ‘healthy or unhealthy?’. Pupils do Activity 1. Also ask: Do sumo wrestlers have a healthy or
unhealthy lifestyle? What’s in the special food they eat? (vitamins) (CBA)
2. Pupils do Activity 2, CD2.05. Explain that in Activity 2 pupils summarised the interview. Check pupils understand ‘Do
they ever…? Ask: Do you ever eat different foods? What are they? Explain that vitamins keep us healthy, are in
most food we eat and that vitamins have letters. For example, vitamin A is in oranges, green vegetables, carrots
and milk. Vitamin A is good for our eyes. Give pupils the handout. In pairs, they say which foods they eat and why

1. Hold up each flashcard in turn. Say the word for pupils to repeat it three or four times. Stick the flashcards on the
board.
2. Pupils look at the picture in their Student’s Books. Elicit who they can see and that there are other children and adult
there. Elicit where they are (at the pet show).
3. Pre-tech pet and pet show. Play the recording. Pupils point to the animals and the words when they hear them.

Lesson development:-
1. Put the grid (refer reference) on the on the board. Use own pictures for the images of animals. Pupils to copy the
grid.
2. Pupils tick 3 boxes secretly (e.g. a small frog, an old elephant, a beautiful cat) and to cover their picture.
3. Pupils have to guess a classmate‘s 3 descriptions by saying them. (HOTS)
4. Demonstrate with 2 pupils how to play the game Pupil A says, e.g. A big spider, and marks this square in their grid
to signal that they have used this choice. Pupil B says yes or no, depending on whether the guess matches one of
the 3 ticks in their grid. (21st CA)
5. Pupil B now guesses in the same way as Pupil A. Divide pupils into pairs or small groups and ask them to play the
game. Fast finishers can add extra ticks and continue. Stop when most, but not all pupils have finished.

Pre-lesson:
Show pupils a finished snapdragon: the outside should have 4 colours on it, the inside 8 numbers 1 - 8 and the very
inside 4 questions What’s your favourite animal / number / toy / colour?
Lesson development:-
1. Choose a pupil and tell him/her to say a colour. The pupil chooses one of the colours on the snapdragon and says
it.
2. If they say green, for example, ask the pupil to say something green in the classroom.
3. Open the snapdragon and ask the pupil to say a number.
4. Count the number together with the pupil and open and shut the snapdragon the same number of times as the
number the pupil tells you.
5. Ask the pupil to choose another number.
6. Now open the snapdragon and ask the pupil the question on the inside (e.g. What’s your favourite animal?): the
pupil answers.
7. Teacher give every pupil a piece of square paper and instructions how to make a snapdragon
8. Pupils make a snapdragon. (CBA)
9. Pupils draw colours on the outside, numbers on the inside and 4 questions on the inside. (HOTS)
