CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background
This year, when the Covid-19 pandemic was breaking out, people must stay at
home and protect themselves from the attack of the virus and many countries affected
by this outbreak must take various effective ways so that the economy to education
can continue to run well. Likewise with Indonesia, schools are required to implement
an online learning system. So, teachers have to update and design new and better
learning techniques and lessons can still be received and accepted by students at
home.
The odd semester has passed, there are many complaints from both parents
and students with the current learning system. Meanwhile, the teacher continues to try
their best to bring lessons to his students. Here, the author has interviewed an English
teacher about how he carried out teaching and learning activities during this pandemic
and also interviewed a student from grade VII of junior high school.
B. School Location
The author went to MTs (Islamic Junior High School) Ihya Ulumuddin. This
school located behind Banjarbaru market at Jalan Sintuk Ujung No. 12, Loktabat
Utara, Kecamatan Banjarbaru Utara, Kota Banjarbaru, Post Code 70714.
C. Collecting Data
For data collection, the authors used interview techniques with teachers and
students face to face at MTs Ihya Ulumuddin and also wrote and recorded the results
of interviews that had been conducted.
CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION
A. Interview Setting
Following are the results of interviews and questions and answers from the
author with the English teacher from MTs Ihya Ulumuddin, Mrs. Khalisah Azzahra,
S. Pd:

Question In today's teaching and learning activities, do teachers use the offline
: or online system?
Answer: For now we are forced to still run an online learning system, because we
follow government recommendations. Maybe next semester we can try
going back to the offline system again if there is a permit from the local
area.
Question What methods do you use for learning English?
:
Answer: The method I use for this online is that most of it is still a lecture method,
when I try to use the discussion method, the discussion doesn't work so
the lesson is less effective. So the teacher used the lecture method using
zoom/google meet.
Question What strategies do you use to get children to focus on learning
: activities?
Anwer: For grade 7 because of using google meet and maybe because they just
graduated from elementary school, they still get bored easily if only by
lecturing. So, I usually display questions on paper and children see also
read or show pictures or by playing videos so that they will be excited
again.
Question Are there certain media or tools that you use in the online learning
: process?
Answer: I usually use the media used for online learning via WhatsApp, but
mostly via Zoom, Google meet, and google classroom to collect
assignments.
Question How do you develop English learning materials? Do you use or add
: from certain sources, or just follow what is in the textbook?
Answer: My learning resources are of course taking from Student Worksheets, and
for new additions taking material from the internet. So, I'm a
combination. Because the material in the book is a bit more material from
the internet.
Question How do you prepare daily classes and the lesson plans?
:
Answer: Usually prepares the class by notifying students in advance of the zoom
link for tomorrow's meeting or by sharing material in advance for
students to read. For the lesson plan, Mother has indeed prepared for
each meeting so that it is more focused.
Question What are the ways you usually for evaluate learning?
:
Answer: Because the assignment was collected through the classroom, when
checked and the grades were still not satisfactory, the lesson was forced
to be repeated again with the task made easier but the material remained
the same.
Next, here are the results of the author's interview with a grade VII student
from MTs Ihya Ulumuddin, Muhammad Farhanoor:
