Work:
Work is the product of a force and the distance moved by its point of
application in the direction of the force
Work = force x distance moved in direction of force = f x s
Its unit is Joules (J)
Work done is a scalar quantity
Joules:
A joule is the work done when the point of application of a force of 1 newton
moves through a distance of 1 metre in the direction of the force.
1 Joule = 1 Newton x 1 Metre
Energy:
Energy is the ability to do work
The unit of energy is the joule (J)
There are different types of energy such as:
1
Kinetic Energy- The energy a body has due to its motion. EK = 2 mv2
Potential Energy – The energy a body has due to its position or state.
EP = mgh
Power:
Power is the rate of doing work or using energy.
Work
Power = time
The unit of power is Watt (W)
1 W = 1 Joule per second
