WILL

1. Structure: subject + Will + base form

2. Uses:
-predictions based on what we think (I think it will rain.)
-Quick decisions (I will open the window as it is hot.)
-Future facts (I will be 33 in October.)
-Promises and hopes (I will always love you.)

Going to

1. Structure: subject + am/are/is + going to + base form

2. Uses:
-Future plans or intentions (Next Wednesday, we are going to the library.)
-Predictions based on what we see (Look at that car, it is going to crash.)

Present simple

1. Structure: subject + verb (-s)

2. Uses:
-Timetables (The train to Brighton leaves at 9:00 am)
-After timetables such as when, until, before, after, as soon as, etc (After he arrives
back, we will go out)

Present continuous

1. Structure: subject + am/is/are + gerund (-ing)

2. Uses:
-Confirmed future plans (We are going to London in July; I booked the tickets
yesterday.)
 Future continuous
1. Structure: subject + will + be + -ing
2. Uses:
-an action happening at a specific moment in the future (We will be traveling this
time next week.)

Future perfect simple

1. Structure: we + will + have + past participle

2. Uses: the specific moment when an action finishes in the future (They will have
finished their assignments by next Monday.)

Future perfect continuous

1. Structure: subject + will + have + been + -ing

2. Use: length of an activity at a specific moment in the future (We will have been playing
chess for about three hours by the time you get home.)

Advance use (future tense); be on the verge/point of

1. Structure: subject + verb “to be” (are, is, am) + on the verge/point + -ing (gerund)
2. Use: Future actions that are going to happen very soon. (She is on the verge of getting
married.)

Prepositional phrases:
