The table gives statistics on independently made films in the UK and Ireland in 2012. Overall, drama and
documentary had the most films, while comedy was the most successful genre when ticket sales are
concerned.

Regarding the number of releases, both drama and documentary had 35 films, which is the equivalent of
23.6% of all films produced, followed by comedy with 26 films in total. Some other genres, including
horror, thriller, crime and action had between 4 and 14 films, taking up from 2.7% to 9.5% of all films.
Also, biopic had only one release.

As the sales figures suggest, almost a half of all income from selling tickets was earned by comedy films.
Horror was the second most profitable genre, accounting for about a fifth of all income. Meanwhile, all of
the other sorts of films contributed less than 10% of income. Notably, the five romance films only
produced 0.8% of ticket sales.
