among adolescents, as it poses various risks to their overall well-being. Hilaan
National High School located in Bontoc Southern Leyte, has not been spared from
this issue. Alcohol consumption among high school students can have detrimental
effects on their academic performance, physical and mental health, and social
relationships. Understanding the underlying factors contributing to alcoholism within
the school setting is crucial to developing effective prevention and intervention
strategies. By examining the prevalence, motivations, and consequences of
alcoholism in Hilaan National High School, this study aims to contribute the existing
body of knowledge on adolescent alcohol use and provide insights for targeted
interventions.

Understanding and addressing the issue of alcoholism

among high school students is crucial due to its potential long term consequences.
Research has consistently shown that early initiation of alcohol use can lead to a
range of negative outcomes, including impaired cognitive abilities, increased risk
taking behaviours, poor academic performance, and potential addiction in adulthood.
Furthermore, excessive drinking during adolescence can disrupt healthy brain
development and increase susceptibility to mental health disorders. The prevalence
of alcohol problems teenagers highlights the urgent need for comprehensive
assessments and targeted interventions in educational setting, such as Hilaan
National High School.

By carrying out this study, I aim to bridge the research gap

and shed light on the specific factors and trends contributing to alcoholism among
high school students in Hilaan National High School. The findings will provide
valuable insights into the prevalence, motivations, and associated consequences of
alcohol consumption in this context , ultimately informing the development of
targeted interventions and prevention programs. This study also seeks to highlight
the urgency of addressing underage alcohol use as a public health concern,
advocating for collaborative efforts by educators, parents, policymakers, and health
care professionals to create a safer and healthier school environment for students of
Hilaan National High School.

alcoholism among high school students in HNHS.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This study will focus solely on Hilaan National High School. It will include students
aged 15 to 18 years old who are currently enrolled in the school. The research will
be conducted over a period of 1 to 2 weeks. Data will be collected through survey
questionnaires distributed to the students, interviews with key informants such as
teacher or school administrators, and examination of relevant school records. The
analysis will primarily involve statistical measures to identify prevalence rates and
correlations, as well as qualitative thematic analysis to gain insights into the
underlying motivations and impacts of alcoholism among the students. It is
important to note that the primary emphasis of this study is on understanding the
prevalence and factors associated with alcoholism, rather than providing immediate
solutions. The findings will serve as foundation for the development of targeted
prevention and intervention strategies tailored to the unique needs of Hilaan
