MAKING AIR CONNECTION

s The inslrument must be connected to a supply of clean dry

compressed air. Please ensure that the air lines are clear of

S any foreign matter or water before making the connection.

S As with all pneumatically operated instruments, good air

quality is important for the longevity of pneumatic
components.
F There are two air supply ports, one for O ring leak sensing
l"
i>
(B) and another for clamping the CVT onto the valve (A). (B) O ring sense air port--!

!
(A) Clamping air port

CHECKING THE GVT ON A VERIFIER

\
It is recommended that the CVT be checked occasionally on
! a CVT verifier to confirm that its bubble chamber is detecting
leakage properly. See Appendix-2. The CVT verifier is a
! separate device and is not supplied with the CVT
instrument.

! USAGE
!
! DISTIXGUISHING between valve-pin leaks and O-ring
ld(s-
! The CvT will detect valve O-ring leaks only if compressed
(B) O ring sense
air port

a- b p.wited at port B. This fact can be used to distinguish

! belwr Yalve?in leaks and O-ring leaks. (A) Clamping air

! Ptace t|e CVT vertically on the cylinder valve. lgnore the

port

! large bubble that appears in the bubble chamber when

the CVT nozzle enters the valve.
! Supply compressed air at both port A and B.
\
The CVT will clamp onto the valve due to the air supplied
\ al port A-

\ The presence of continuos bubbles in the bubble

chamber indicates that the valve is leaking either through
\ the valve-pin or O-ring.

\ To determine whether the leak is from the valve pin or O-

ring, switch off the air being supplied to port B. lf the
bubbles stop then the leak is in the O-ring if the bubbles
continue then the leak is in the valve-pin.

4. At the start of the forward stroke prace the compact ]
valve tester (CVT) on the verifier outlet valve and supply ".u.r.uJr'n"'
air to port (A) to clamp it onto the outlet valve of the
verifier-

5. The CVT should show a continuos stream of bubbles in

the spiral groove of the bubble chamber. Note that this
test can also be used to familiarise the operator with the
appearance of 0.5 gms/hour leak on his instrument.

The precise appearance of the bubbles may change

during the life of the instrument. A large abrupt change
indicates the need to clean the instrument. With partic-
ular attention to the small passages which direct the
leak from the nozzle to the bubble chamber. lt may also
occur after maintenance it the core cap in the bubble
chamber is assembled wrongly (see appendix-4).

6. Remove the CVT from the verifier before reversing the

verifier stroke.
