3.0.0 2 x 100% duty Condensate Extraction pumps are provided for this project. These pumps
are meant to draw the condensate from the condenser hot-well and feed it to deaerator
through LP Heaters. Conditions for safe operation of these pumps are specified below.
These shall be kept in view while designing the control circuits and during operation of
the pumps.

4.0.0 CONDITIONS WHEN CEPs OF THE UNIT ARE AT REST :

4.1.0 The circuit breakers of the drive motor (HM) of the CEPs shall be in ‘OFF’
position.
4.2.0 The suction valve (SV), recirculation valve (RV) shall be kept open for all pumps.
4.3.0 The discharge valve (DV) shall be closed.

5.0.0 PUTTING THE CEPs INTO OPERATION :

5.1.0 The CEP chosen for operation shall have the following condition checked manually:
5.1.1 Power supply is available to the drive motor.
5.1.2 Oil level in thrust bearing gauge glass is above normal level.
5.1.3 Cooling water is available to the thrust bearing.

5.1.4 Sealing water is available to the stuffing box (Initially the sealing water is to be
taken from emergency source and subsequently from discharge header when the
pump comes into operation.)
5.1.5 The valve in canister vent line to the condenser is open. This valve should be
locked in OPEN position.
5.1.6 The solenoid valve on discharge vent line to the L.P flash tank is open.

5.2.0 The CEP motor (HM) shall be started provided the following permissive conditions are

fulfilled:
It must not be used directly or indirectly in any way detrimental to the interest of the company.

5.2.1 Suction valve (SV) is open. (Limit switch in SV shall be used.)

5.2.2 Condenser hot-well level ‘Not-Low’ (from the low-level switch provided on the
hot well).
5.2.3 Condensate pump discharge valve (DV) to be in closed condition.
5.2.4 Minimum recirculation valve (RV) to be kept wide open.
5.3.0 START – UP :
5.3.1 If all the conditions envisaged above are fulfilled, the pump can be started. When the

pump is started and achieves a pre-set pressure of 19.0 kg/cm2, sensed by pressure
transmitters KKS Tag nos. LCA10 CP022 & 023 (1 OUT OF 2 LOGIC) (provided at the
pump discharge before NRV), discharge valve (DV) of the CEP shall open
automatically.
5.3.2 Solenoid valve on discharge vent line shall be closed with a time delay of 2 minutes
after pump starting.

6.0.0 CONDITIONS FOR TRIPPING THE OPERATING CEP :

The operating CEP shall be tripped when any of the following abnormal conditions
exists with an audio-visual signal:
6.1.0 If the hot-well level falls to ‘Low-Low’ level.
6.2.0 If discharge pressure before NRV is less than the preset value of 14.0 kg/cm2,
sensed by pressure transmitters KKS Tag nos. LCA10 CP022 & 023, with a time
lag of 10 seconds after CEP motor starting.
6.3.0 If drive motor (HM) protections are actuated.
6.4.0 Whenever the pump trips or stopped from manual/ remote, the associate
discharge valve shall close automatically.

7.0.0 STAND – BY PUMP:

When one CEP is operating, the second CEP can be kept as stand-by. When a pump is
kept as stand-by, its selector switch shall be in AUTO position, corresponding discharge
valve shall be in open condition and all the conditions envisaged in 5.0.0 except 5.2.3
shall be fulfilled. When the stand-by pump is kept on AUTO, it shall come into
operation when any of the following conditions occur:
7.10 One of the running pumps trips.
7.20 Discharge header pressure less than a pre-set value of 15.0kg/cm2 for more than
10 seconds.
7.30 Whenever the running pump trips due to ‘Low- Low’ level in condenser hot-
well, it should not be possible to start the stand-by pump.

8.0.0 During any of the operating conditions the flow handled by the CEP shall not be less
than 125 m3/hr (to be ensured by operation of CEP min RC valve).
