Many people, even including Hindus born and raised
in India, will be unfamiliar with the some of the weap-
on names, the techniques, the warrior traditions and
the martial texts mentioned throughout this article.
However, there is no blame on them. The lack of
awareness about their ancestral martial culture is due
to centuries of Islamic and Western invasions and cul-
tural takeovers. Fortunately, a total cultural genocide
never occurred. Many ancient indigenous Hindu be-
liefs, practices and texts survive to this day. This is
thanks to the traditionalists who preserved the ways of
their ancestors. Though, this effort must continue by
future generations so that all will never be lost. I urge
everyone – male and female, young and old, to join
the effort in researching, promoting and preserving the
traditional martial arts and combat sports of India, any
way they can – read, learn, write, illustrate, interview,
publish, film, share, purchase, fund, teach, etc.
