A SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
a) Identify the speech styles in various context
b) Create short conversations out of the given communication situations
using appropriate styles.
c) Value the importance of communication style in real life situations.

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic: Communicative Style for Various Situations
b. Teaching Materials: Laptop, TV/Projector
c. Reference: English 9: Quarter 1, Module 3

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
 The teacher will ask one of her students to lead the prayer.
b. Greetings
 The teacher will have a proper greeting to her students and ask
how they are.
c. Classroom Management
 The teacher will remind her students to arrange the chairs and
pick up the pieces of trash in their surroundings. Always
remember to maintain the cleanliness of our classroom.
d. Checking of Attendance
 The teacher will ask the class if there are absentees.
e. Review
 The teacher will ask her students about the previous lesson they
had.

B. Motivation
 The teacher will conduct a game called Tell Me What You See.
 The teacher will present five different pictures and will ask the
student to describe each picture. After that, she will ask students
what the pictures have in common.

IV. Lesson Proper


A. Activity
 Before the lesson proper starts, the teacher will conduct a group
activity.
 The teacher will group the class into three. Each group will have
representatives who will act out the given script. After the

performance of every group, the teacher will ask the remaining


members questions and to describe the other groups’
performance.

B. Analysis
The teacher will ask the students these following questions:
 What have you observed on the performances?
 Is the language you use the same when you talk to your friends,
parents, and teachers? How do you say so?
 Why do you think that there are certain degree of formality and
informality in social situations?
 How important it is to identify and apply such correct communicative
style in certain situation?

C. Abstraction
 The teacher will discuss the five communicative styles in various
situations: Frozen, Formal, Consultative, Casual, and Intimate.

D. Application
 The teacher will conduct a group activity called ‘It’s Showtime’. The
class will be group into five. They are going to create a short
conversation of the given communication situations using appropriate
styles. The situation will be given to each group using a spinning
wheel. Each group will be given 5 minutes to prepare, and 2 minutes
to perform.

V. Evaluation
 The teacher will evaluate if the students really understood the topic
by conducting a quiz. Students will identify the speech style
appropriate to use in the given social situation. This will be done in a
one-fourth sheet of paper.

VI. Assignment
 Please read in advance about our next topic on nature and process of
communications.
