Position Maintenance Manager

Position Mechanic

Summary of the role: To assemble, maintain and repair machinery and vehicles. You will be
responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of machines, engines and mechanical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements.
• Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality

Position Boilermaker
Location UMK Mine
Summary of the role: Responsible for assembling, erection, and repair of boilers, tanks, vats, and
pressure vessels, in field: Conveys tools, equipment, and parts to work area by hand or using hand
trucks.
• Bolt or arc-weld structures and parts together, using wrenches and welding equipment.
• Examine structures and equipment to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective
sections so that they can be repaired.
• Inspect assembled structures and individual components, such as channels, I-beams, welding
and auxiliary mechanisms, to locate any defects.
• Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal, and locate and mark bending and cutting lines,
using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments or templates.
• Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on structure foundations, following
blueprints and using straightedges, squares, transits, and measuring instruments.
• Position, align, and secure structural parts and related assemblies to frames following blueprints.
• Repair or replace defective structural parts, such as channel sections and I-beams, using torches,
jacks, caulking hammers, power saws, threading dies, welding equipment, and metalworking
machinery.
• Shape seams, joints, and irregular edges of structure sections and structural parts in order to

Position Fitter
Location UMK Mine
Summary of Role: To operate machines to produce parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, planning,
shaping, slotting, grinding or drilling metal stock or components. Fit and assemble metal parts, tools or
sub-assemblies, including welding or brazing parts. Cut, thread, bend and install hydraulic and pneumatic
pipes and lines.
• Fits, assembles, grinds and shapes metal parts and sub-assemblies to fabricate production
machines and other equipment.
• Setting one or more types of machine tool for production of metal articles in standardized series.
• Operating and monitoring metalworking machines, such as lathes, milling, and planning, boring,
drilling, grinding or honing machines, including multi-purpose numerically controlled metalworking
machines.
• Performing similar tasks when machining plastics and other metal substitutes.
• Observing machine operations to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting
machines as necessary.

Position General Worker

Summary of Role: Responsible for cleaning and general maintenance of the site, loading and delivering
materials, and using a variety of tools and machines such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power
drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, and water spraying equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform tasks involving physical labour, including, building, plumbing, heavy construction,
excavations and demolition projects.
• Operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small
mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment and a variety of other equipment and

Position Safety Officer
Location UMK Mine
Summary of Role: To ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of the
Company’s safety management system, client’s safety management systems and all applicable acts and
regulations.
• Promote a culture in which Health and Safety is the prime concern and will never be
compromised.
• Implement and enforce the Client Safety Management System.
• Ensure that all of the Client’s health and safety requirements are met. If this is not possible
for whatever reason, the Safety Officer is to report this to the Site Manager.
• Ensure that the required risk assessments are carried out. This shall include at least, but not
limited to, Baseline, Issue Based, Operational Risk Assessments / Continuous Risk
Assessments
• Ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
• Assist the responsible persons to ensure that all work is performed by suitably trained and
competent persons. When this is not the case, report this to the responsible person of the
area.
• Conduct daily site visual inspections, and report all findings immediately to the relevant
responsible persons.
• Conduct weekly documented inspections of site conditions. These reports must be submitted
to the Site Manager, Safety Manager and all relevant responsible persons.
• Compile an action log, with input from all relevant responsible persons, on the findings and
corrective actions of all documented inspections.
• Compile a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, including inspections, audits,
meetings, etc. and submit this to the Company Safety Manager.
• Compile weekly and monthly HSE Reports, and submit them to the Safety Manager as well
as the Site Manager.
• Ensure that the Management Team is informed of all their legal and contractual HSE
obligations to comply with the Client’s requirements.
• Co-ordinate daily / weekly HSE talks (DSTI) by the Supervisors with their respective work
crews.
• Encourage the participation of personnel in all site HSE promotional activities.
• Report all incidents and accidents, according to the established procedure, to the Client’s
Safety Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
• Compile Flash Reports for all incidents and accidents, and submit these to the Client’s Safety
Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
• Enter incident and accident data into the Client’s Incident Management System.
• With the assistance of an investigation team, investigate incidents and accidents fully,
compile an investigation report with corrective actions, and distribute this to the required

implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
• Co-ordinate all required training of personnel in HSE aspects.

Summary of the role: Supervise load and haul activities in an open pit environment. Responsible for the

Position Excavator Operator
Location UMK Mine
Summary of Role: Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the excavator. The Excavator
Operator uses mechanical controls to operate the boom, arm and bucket to excavate, level off and work
the ground.

Summary of Role: Responsible for managing the trucks for loading and unloading, filling hoppers and
bins throughout the plant, ensuring that the plant runs smoothly and materials are managed safely.

• Operating the FEL appropriately and according to company standards.
• Various ad-hoc tasks as required by the nature of our work Environment/Plant.
• Ensure that all Front-End Loader pre-shift checks are done.
• Ensure Key Control and Risk assessments are done and signed off by supervisor.
• Operator to report all defects and unsafe condition to his/her supervisor.
• Preservation of Machine Hygiene.
• Inspect and prepare loading area if required.
• Ensure sufficient feed material is available and report to supervisor should feed material be

• Operating the Crusher appropriately and according to company standards.
• To minimize the standing time in the production of crushed stone and saleable products.
• To reduce losses to the company by operating the machine under your control in a manner that is
effective and productive.
• To minimize double handling of materials and excessive processing costs caused by poor
systems implementation when crushing/screening aggregates.

Position ADT Operator
Location UMK Mine
Summary of Role: Responsible for transporting and dumping materials such as rock, asphalt, or other
materials as needed. To load and facilitate movement of equipment using various tilt deck and lowboy
trailers. To Drive other vehicles and/or configurations as assigned.
• Do pre use inspections according to MHS act.
• Safely drives truck and materials to destinations.
• Adhere to all the Mine’s SOP and regulations for operating an ADT.
• Must have and maintain a clean driving record
• Conduct static break test as well as preform break tests on a ramp.
• Follow supervisors’ instructions.
• Driver must maintain a clean and safe work truck and report any deviations to his/her supervisor.
• Driver must inspect to make sure materials are loaded correctly.
• Ensure truck is not overloaded.
• Report any spillages or potholes on haul road to supervisor
Requirements:
• Valid ADT competency certificate.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience operating an ADT.
• National Driver’s License.
• Previous experience in a mining environment will be an advantage.

Position Safety Officer

Summary of Role: To ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the requirements of the
Company’s safety management system, client’s safety management systems and all applicable acts and
regulations.
• Promote a culture in which Health and Safety is the prime concern and will never be
compromised.
• Implement and enforce the Client Safety Management System.
• Ensure that all of the Client’s health and safety requirements are met. If this is not possible
for whatever reason, the Safety Officer is to report this to the Site Manager.
• Ensure that the required risk assessments are carried out. This shall include at least, but not
limited to, Baseline, Issue Based, Operational Risk Assessments / Continuous Risk
Assessments
• Ensure compliance to legislative requirements.
• Assist the responsible persons to ensure that all work is performed by suitably trained and
competent persons. When this is not the case, report this to the responsible person of the
area.
• Conduct daily site visual inspections, and report all findings immediately to the relevant
responsible persons.
• Conduct weekly documented inspections of site conditions. These reports must be submitted
to the Site Manager, Safety Manager and all relevant responsible persons.
• Compile an action log, with input from all relevant responsible persons, on the findings and
corrective actions of all documented inspections.
• Compile a monthly HSE Task Schedule for all departments, including inspections, audits,
meetings, etc. and submit this to the Company Safety Manager.
• Compile weekly and monthly HSE Reports, and submit them to the Safety Manager as well
as the Site Manager.
• Ensure that the Management Team is informed of all their legal and contractual HSE
obligations to comply with the Client’s requirements.
• Co-ordinate daily / weekly HSE talks (DSTI) by the Supervisors with their respective work
crews.
• Encourage the participation of personnel in all site HSE promotional activities.
• Report all incidents and accidents, according to the established procedure, to the Client’s
Safety Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
• Compile Flash Reports for all incidents and accidents, and submit these to the Client’s Safety
Representative, the Site Manager, and the Company Safety Manager.
• Enter incident and accident data into the Client’s Incident Management System.

• With the assistance of an investigation team, investigate incidents and accidents fully,
compile an investigation report with corrective actions, and distribute this to the required
persons as per the established procedure. Ensure that the corrective actions are
implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
• Co-ordinate all required training of personnel in HSE aspects.
• Duties according to regulation 2.19.1 of the minerals act, act 50 of 1991.
Requirements:
• COMSOC 1 & 2, SAMTRAC or equivalent mining qualification.
• Incident Investigation (ICAM).
• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
• Legal Liability, Fire Fighting, First Aid.
• 3 Years’ experience as a Safety Officer in the mining industry.
• Advanced knowledge of the MHSA 29 of 1996.
• Relevant Safety Management Qualification.
• Strong mechanical and technical knowledge.
• Own transportation.
