ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT

Pre- Assessment
Directions : Choose the correct possessive pronoun.

Interactive Discussion
Possessive Pronouns show ownership without using the specific nouns to
indicate possession . The words his, hers, theirs,my,ours, and its are some
examples.
The words, “my” and “mine” say that the person speaking owns the object.
Instead of saying , “ I own that house “. You could say, “That is my house “ or
“That is mine “.
His is the masculine possessive pronoun. We use it to show that the
person who owns the object is male. Instead of saying Bobbie’s car, we can say
‘his car’ or “That is his!”
Her or hers are the feminine possessive pronouns. We use it to show that
the person who owns the object is female. Instead of saying Cecile’s gift,we can
say ‘her gift ‘ or ‘the gift is hers’.
ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT

Their and theirs are used to show that a group owns the object. Instead of
saying Cecile,Tony, and Greg’s cat,we can say ‘their cat ‘ or ‘the cat is theirs’.
Our or ours are used to show that a group owns the object and this group
includes the speaker. Instead of saying my,Cecile,Tony, and Greg’s cat, we can
sat ‘our cat’ or ‘the cat is ours ‘.
Its is used in place of words that have no indicated gender. “The cat’s
scratch post “ becomes “Its scratch post.
