Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 10

Date: March 28, 2023

Time: 3:00-4:00 PM

Content Standard: The information stored in DNA as being used to make proteins

Competency: explain how protein is made using information from DNA. (S10LT-IIId-37)

Time Allotment: 1 hour

I. OBJECTIVE/S:

a. Relate DNA replication to its complementary structure.

b. Explain the process of DNA replication.
c. Name some of the DNA codon.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic: DNA Replication

b. Material/s: Paper, PPT, Laptop and TV
c. Reference/s: Science 10 Learners Module and Teachers Guide

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE:

Preparatory activities:

1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance.

A. Review/Recall
Before anything else let’s have a quick review regarding to our previous topic. Last meeting,
we discussed about DNA and RNA. What is DNA? How about RNA?
B. Motivation
I will present a picture and then you are going to guess what specific word fits with the theme
of the photo presented.

This afternoon we will going to explore how DNA replicates.

C. Lesson Proper
Why is the Study of DNA Important?
1. It’s essential to all life on earth
2. Medical Benefits—disease detection, treatment, prevention
3. Development of Crops
4. Forensics

What is Replication?
 The process by which DNA makes a copy of itself
 Why does DNA need to copy?
 Cells divide for an organism to grow or reproduce
 Every new cell needs a copy of DNA

The teacher will discuss further the types of RNA, the different enzymes present in DNA
replication, as well as the naming of amino acids in the codon of the DNA.

D. Activity
Let the student complete nucleobases or nitrogenous bases of the DNA and RNA replication.
E. Generalization
Why does DNA need to copy?
 Cells divide for an organism to grow or reproduce
 Every new cell needs a copy of DNA

IV. Evaluation
Ask the students the following questions below:

1. What is the role of helicase in the replication process?

Answer: Breaks the bond between the nucleotides. Unzip double stranded DNA molecule.
2. What is the importance of DNA replication?
Answer: It insures that all body cell must carry the same genetic material and that instructions
are copied exactly for the next generation.
3. Name the following amino acids using the DNA codon.
a. GAA- Glumatic acid
b. AGU-Serine
c. UUU-Phenylalanine

V. Assignment
