stayed in and want to complain to the travel agency that arranged the holiday.
o mention why you are unhappy about the hotel where you stayed
Letter Writing # 308 - You are unhappy with the quality of the hotel you stayed in (ielts-
mentor.com)
Sample:
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to complain about the hotel you had booked for me last week.
I am not too happy with the hotel you had arranged for me. The name of the hotel was
“Moonlight” located in Dalat province. I supposed to stay here from the 5th to the 9th of January to
enjoy my new year’s holiday that was arranged by you.
Unfortunately, I had to check out after spending 2 nights there because of unpleasant experience.
I did not find the hotel room to be clean enough for the price I paid. It had bad odor that made me
irritate whenever I stayed here. Moreover, the hotel didn’t provide any shuttle service anywhere
in the city even though that was exactly what I was told.
I did not get the service that was promised by your agency. So it is only fair if I get full refund I
paid for the hotel.
Task 2: You recently started commuting to work by bicycle and discovered that there is a
problem with bicycle parking near the building where you work.
Sample:
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to draw your attention to the problems I have with the bicycle parking near
your building.
Recently, I have started to commute to work by bike because it saves me lots of time by helping
me avoid the morning traffic rush. Moreover, I see cycling to work every day as a chance to
exercise and get into good physical shape.
However, it seems like I have to quit cycling because I hardly getting any empty space at the
parking lot near your building. In one hand, the parking space is rather small, on the other hand,
there are some car users always park their cars in the area for bicycle users.
I can not really ask you to expand the parking space, but I can ask you to request the car owners
do not use the parking space that is designated for bicycle users. Your in-time intervention can
solve the problem immediately.

Task 3: You visit a sports centre regularly, and there is a problem with the changing rooms in it.
You have complained about it several times but with no success.
Letter Writing # 285 - Write a letter to the manager of the sports centre (ielts-mentor.com)
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to draw your attention to the problems I have with the changing room in your gym.
The first issue is that the doors of some rooms do not work properly, maybe because of the lock
systems have worn out or excessive use. The second problem is that, sometimes, a foul smell hits
us right after entering the room because they do not get cleaned properly every day.
I have informed the problem with the gym supervisor a couple times, but it looks like that the
problems have not been solved. The last time I talk to him was last week, despite his promise to
fix the issue, nothing significant has been done.
Therefore, I think you may take actions immediately to solve the problems mentioned above, so
that users can have more pleasant experience at your sport center.

Task 4: You have bought some clothing online and are not satisfied with your purchase.

Email Writing # 292 - Email to the company you bought the clothing from (ielts-mentor.com)
Dear Sir/Madam,
Last week, I bought a dress from your online store, but I just do not think I am fully satisfied with
the purchase I made. I used my credit card to pay for the outfit, and the online receipt number is
HN-1804.
I ordered an off the shoulder long sleeve dress, but a long sleeve turtleneck was what I received.
Not only that but also it was not in the colour that I chose. In fact, I wanted a jet black, but it
came out to be nude, instead. The size also seems to be smaller than what I actually ordered.
So, please replace it at your earliest convenience because I do not really have any decent dress to
wear to the university prom next week. If I do not hear from you within the next seven days, I
would be forced to lodge a complaint to the “Consumers rights Commission” office.
Your faithfully.
Task 5: You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in
your country all look very similar to each other. You don’t fully agree with this opinion.
o explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
o offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article
Letter Writing # 282 - Town centres in your country all look very similar (ielts-mentor.com)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am Quynh, I have read your article “What’s up Vietnam” on the internet last week. You claimed
that the center in our country looks very similar, which doesn’t seem right to me.
In your article, the overall size of centers in our country is considered smaller than that of the
USA, UK or China. I totally agree with that because we still are a developing country, does not
have as much economical potential as them.
However, I cannot understand why did the author claimed that centers in my countries look very
identical while each center in different area has their own unique. For example, in the town center
in my hometown, there is a separated floor for grape fruits and grape food product, which is our
hometown specialty. In addition to that, the design was designed having a lot of facilities for
elderly. This feature is not included in the center for areas with young population.
If the author of the article does not believe what I am saying here about my city centre, I would
be more than happy to give him a guided tour so that he can get some more insight about it. I am
looking forward to seeing the adjustment in your article about our centers.

Letter Writing # 257 - The office you work in does not have any cafeteria for staff (ielts-
mentor.com)
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to draw your attention to the issues our staff have because of our office do not have
any cafeteria. Hence, I hope you can set up one for convenience of our staff.
Because we do not having any cafeteria, where our worker can grasp a snack, food, and drink
quickly, they have to walk 15 minutes to the closest restaurant or grocery store during the very
short lunch break. This left them almost no time to rest before the afternoon shift starts. Lack of
proper rest after long hours of hard work can lead to low productivity.
Therefore, I would like to request you to set up a large cafeteria in the large room at the end of
corridor, which remains unused most of the time. This will make sure our staff has at least one
less issue to worry about while trying to be more efficient at work.
I hope you will consider this issue and set up a cafeteria soon. Thank you in advance.

You are unhappy about a plan to make your local airport bigger - GT Writing Task 1: Sample 90
(ielts-mentor.com)
Dear Sir/Madam
I am writing to draw your attention to the problems regarding your plan to expand the local
airport and increase the number of flight.
I am residing in a neighborhood that is 10 km from the international aiport Tan Son Nhat. I
moved here last month because of my job. Living near the airport means we have to deal with
high level of noise every day. Loud noise from aircraft engines make me unable to sleep at night,
thus feel very exhausted the next morning. In addition to that, a huge amount of CO2 from
aircraft contributes greatly to the low air quality in my neighborhood. I have problems related to
respiratory system more often since I moved here.
Therefore, I was very concerned when I was informed about the plan of expanding the airport and
increase the number of fight. This change will worsen the negative effects mention above. So,
please reconsider this issue.
Your faithfully.
I live near the Bogra International Airport where more than two thousand citizens, including
children and older people, reside. Living near the airport is already difficult as harsh noises are
frequent, especially at night when the aeroplanes land or depart the runway. If the number of
flights is increased, the noise will become unbearable. This could result in immense distress to
the people. Besides, it would worsen the traffic condition of the adjacent roads.
Moreover, the airport authority wants to expand the area; so our lovely park, which is essential
for every citizen of this locality, will be diminished. Due to this, everyone in our locality is
against this proposed development.
