PRODUCTIVITY TIP Complete three things. Make a to-do list and only put three things on it.
Cross each one out when you finish. Think of three more things, make a list,
and cross them out. Make sure that each item is small enough that you can
easily finish it. Breakdown large items into three small tasks and see what
you have achieved each day. Keep your goals in site and celebrate your
accomplishments!

Another equally important aspect that you need to prepare as future language educators is the use of
technology which has become an important part of the learning process in and out of the class. These
days, every language class usually uses some form of technology. Technology has been used to both
help and improve language learning. Significantly, technology enables teachers to adapt classroom
activities, thus enhancing the language learning process. Technology continues to grow in importance
as a tool to help teachers facilitate language learning for their learners. In fact, due to the emerging
uses of technology in language teaching and learning, it is inevitable that these concepts are
associated. In the K to 12 English and Filipino Curriculum guide from DepEd, the context of the present
learners’ needs is considered. So for a start, we go over the curriculum guide to know the intended
learning competencies for both English & Filipino, then we will also identify what are the 21 st century
To find out what you might have known about the concepts to be discussed in this module, try to

A. English Curriculum Framework
The K-12 Language Arts and
Multiliteracies Curriculum is
anchored on the following
language acquisition, learning,
teaching and assessing principles:
1. All languages are interrelated
and interdependent.
2. Language acquisition and
learning is an active process that
begins at birth and continues
throughout life.
3. Learning requires meaning.
4. Learners learn about language
and how to use it effectively
through their engagement with and
study of texts.
5. Successful language learning
involves viewing, listening,
speaking, reading and writing
activities
The following extract is lifted from the introductory highlights of the Filipino curriculum framework.
The purpose of teaching Filipino is to develop (1) communicative ability, (2) reflective / critical thinking and, (3)
students' appreciation of literature and technology towards gaining national identity, cultural literacy, and
continuing learning to keep pace with the rapid change taking place in the world. To achieve this goal, teachers
need instructional materials to support curriculum coming from administration, social agencies, private and
public, government, local, media, home and other sectors of society. Curriculum development takes into
account the social, local and global community needs, as well as the nature and needs of the students. It is
also based on legal educational law, and philosophical theories of education and language by Jean Piaget
(Developmental Stages of Learning), Leo Vygotsky (Cooperative Learning), Jerome Bruner (Discovery
Learning), Robert Gagne (Heirarchical Learning), David Ausubel (Interactive / Integrated Learning), Cummins
(Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills-BICS and Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency Skills-CALPS)
and our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal who said that "the hope of the people is in the youth". Because Filipino
is in the discipline of language, theories on the nature and learning of the language are based on, the theory /
principles of literary analysis and approaches to language teaching (W1, W2, W3) and teaching of literary
works and expounding texts.
The P21.org (2008) presented the 21st century skills relevant to the student’s professional growth to be
