Good morning class!

Good morning teacher!
Ok, everybody stand up. Lead the prayer, Sheann.
In the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit,
amen.
Before you take your seats kindly pick up the dirt you can
see inside the classroom and put it in the trash bins.

Done?
Yes, teacher.
You may now take your seats.
Thank you, teacher.
Who are absent today?
None teacher.

That’s good to know because all of you will learn something

today.

What are our house rules?

Sit properly.
Listen carefully.
Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.
Treat others with respect.
Ok, excellent! I’m happy that you still keep that in mind.

Review
What was our topic last meeting? Yes, Maika?
About circle.
Ok, thank you. Last meeting we discussed about the terms
related to circle. What are those words that are related to
circle?
Diameter

Very good! What else?

Radius, teacher.
Excellent! What else?
Chord
Segment
Circumference
Tangent
Good remembering, class. It’s good to hear that you still
recall what we have discussed last meeting. But, let’s see if
you still know where are those word located in a circle.

Drill

Ok. So, I have here a circle and a chart. As you can see, the
chart is full of words which you can use to answer in the
blank space on the circle

. Did you get it?

Yes, teacher.
Who wants to answer for number 1? Read the word first
Republic of the Philippines

before pasting it.

Me, teacher.
Go ahead, Ericson.
The answer for number 1 is circumference.
Correct! Thank you, Ericson. Let’s clap our hands for
Ericson. The circumference is the distance around the
circle.
Who wants to answer for number 2?
Me, teacher.
Ok, Nadine.
Diameter.
You got it right, Nadine. The diameter is the straight line that
passes through the centre of the circle. Let’s clap our hands
for Nadine.
Who wants to answer next?

Yes, Joan.
Me, teacher.
Excellent, Joan. So, radius is the half of the diameter. Let’s .
clap our hands for Joan. Radius.
Next?
Me, teacher.
Go ahead, Angel.
Chord.
That’s correct, Angel. Chord is a line segment joining two
points on the circle. By the way, what’s the difference
between a chord and the diameter?
Teacher every diameter is a chord and diameter is the
longest chord.
Very good, Ericson. I’m happy that you still remember that.
Let’s proceed to the next number.
Me, teacher.
Ok, Maylove.
Segment.
Very good Maylove. Segment is a part of the circle
separated from the rest of a circle by a chord. Let’s clap our
hands for Maylove.

How about this one...who wants to answer?

Me.
Go, ahead Jomen.
Tangent.
Correct, Jomen! The answer is tangent because a tangent
is a straight line which touches the circle at only one point.
Let’s clap our hands for Jomen.
And for our last number, who wants to answer?
Me. Yes, teacher.
Republic of the Philippines
POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES

Go ahead, Maricel.
Point of contact.
You got it right, Maricel. This point is what we call the point
of contact. It is where the tangent touches the circle.

Good job everyone! You really learned from our previous

lesson.

Motivation

Now, are you ready for our new lesson?

Ok, but before we proceed to our discussion we will have
first a group activity. Do you want to play a game?
Yes!
If that so i will divide you into three groups. This is the team
cat, this is the team dog and the team pig. Let’s play
Tangram. . Do you know what is tangram? It is an ancient
Chinese puzzle. It has seven pieces of shapes and you can
use it to form an infinite image number and various types of
figures. And that’s what you’re going to do now. I will give
you this tangram pieces and you will use these to form an
image that i will show you. Did you get it?
Ok, teacher.
The fist group to finish the task will get a point. Now to know
if you’re done forming the image, team dog will say Aw! Aw!
Aw! While team cat will say Meow! Meow! Meow! And the
team pig will say Oink! Oink! Oink!
Again, what are you going to say team dog if you’re done?
How about the team cat? How about the team pig?
Aw! Aw! Aw!
Meow! Meow! Meow!
Oink! Oink! Oink!
Ok, very good. Let’s start! Are you ready?
Yes.
The first image.
Meow! Meow! Meow!
I guess team cat is already finished. Let me see. You got it,
team cat.

What animal did you form out of those shapes, team cat?
A cat!
That’s right. Who have cats in their home? Are they
friendly? Me. Yes.

Yes. Cats are cute. Next image...

Aw! Aw! Aw!
Team dog, let me see... you got it right team dog. What

animal did you form out of those shapes, team dog?

A dog.
That’s right. Who have dog in their home?
Me.
Are they friendly?
Yes. I love my dog.
Yes, dogs are best friends. Now, for our last image, this will
be the last round. Are you ready team cat, dog and pig?
Yes.
Aw! Aw! Aw!
Let me see it team dog... ok, you got it right.

What animal did you form out of those shapes, team dog?
A cow.
That’s right. Have you ever seen a cow already?
Yes, teacher.
What do they eat?
They eat grass.
Yes. So, who got the highest point?
Team dog got the highest point, teacher.
Ok, the winner is team dog. Let’s give team dog a Darna
clap.

1, 2, 3, darna! 1, 2, 3, darna!

Did you enjoy our activity?

Yes, teacher.
Ok, I’m glad that you enjoyed it because our topic for today
is about shapes or polygons.

B. Development

Presentation

Our topic for today is polygon. Did you know that we are
living in a world full of shape or polygons? Because we all
use shapes. Just like what we played earlier, through
shapes we are able to form an image. And all the activity we
do include shapes, like for example when we are cooking. If
you like to cook and you are making something that requires
you to cut it, you probably cut it into a certain shape. For
example, brownies into square, pizza into triangle. In other
words, shapes help us classify objects in real life.

That’s why I have here different object that represents

different polygons. Can you name the polygon that catches
your attention? But wait do you know what polygons
Republic of the Philippines
POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES

means?

Discussion

The word polygon comes from the Greek word Poly means
“many” and Gon means “angle”. It is a 2D shape that has 3
or more enclosed straight sides.

What are the properties of a polygon?

Vertices – the point where line segment meet

Angle- form by intersecting lines

Line segment- straight line that has 2 end points

Polygon has kinds. So, what are these kinds?

Triangle and quadrilaterals are the first set of polygons that

you have encountered, right?
Triangle- polygon that has three sides.

Can you read it jelyn.

Triangle- polygon that has three sides.
Thank you jelyn, so triangle has a three sides. Next we
have,
Quadrilateral- polygon that has four sides.

How many sides does quadrilateral has?

4
Ok, we have 4 sides.

How about the next polygon. Can you read it, jomen.
Pentagon- polygon that has five sides.
Pentagon- polygon that has five sides.

Let’s count if there are 5 sides in pentagon. 1,2,3,4,5. Next,

can you read it lor?

Hexagon- polygon that has six sides.
Hexagon- polygon that has six sides.

Ok, thank you. So, hexagon has six sides, right?

Yes teacher.
How about heptagon, can you count the number sides of
heptagon, emoy?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7.. there are 7 sides, teacher.

Heptagon- polygon that has seven sides.

Very good! Next, we have octagon. How many sides are

there in octagon, lala?
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.. there are 8 sides, teacher.

That’s right.

Octagon- polygon that has eight sides. Yes, teacher.

Di you get it?

9, teacher.
Our next polygon is a nonagon. How many sides are there
in a nonagon?

Very good!

Another polygon, we have decagon. A decagon has 10

sides.

Did you get it? Yes, teacher.

Is everything clear about our topic? Or do you have any

question? None, teacher.
Ok, it seems that you really understand our lesson but let’s
further test your understanding through this activity.

Activity

Let’s have another grouping because I want you to be

friendly and kind to all of your classmates. And you have to
learn that not all the time we will have the people we always
with. And because of that, you will learn to express Yes, teacher.
yourselves and understand the idea of fair share. So be
kind. Is that understood?

Ok, I will divide you into two; the team dog and team cat.
Can you please form a circle again before i give my Ok, teacher.
instruction?

Is everything ok? Circle your chair properly so that everyone

in the group will be able to give their answer.

Now I have here a box. This is not a mystery box because

inside this box is consist of polygons. I will pick a polygon
and then you have to tell me what polygon it is.

Write your answer on the cardboard

provided. Choose your secretary to write your answer. The
first group who get the right answer will get a point.
Yes, teacher.
Did you get it?
Yes, teacher.
Ok, are you ready?

Very good. You’re right team dog. Next polygon… we have..

Octagon
What kind of polygon do you think is this?

You got it, team dog. Next polygon… we have..

Decagon

Correct, team dog. Another point for team dog. Next, we

have…

The winner is team dog. Let’s give team dog a superman

clap.
1, 2, 3, superman!
1, 2, 3, superman!
Generalization

What is our topic today?

About polygon.
Yes, about polygon.

What are the kinds of polygon?

.
Triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon,

You really listen to my discussion and you really prove that

you are enthusiastic to learn.
Let’s further test understanding through this activity.

Application

This is a group activity so let’s have the same group we had

earlier. For group 1, this is your task and this is for the group
2.

Can you read what you’re going to do, group 1?

Write the name of polygon base on the given picture.

Ok, so you have to write the name of the polygon base on

the given picture. How about the group 2, read your
assigned task.
Write the name of polygon base on the description given.
So same as group 1, you have to write the name of the
polygon. You have to read the sentences carefully so that
you will able to write the right answer. Did you understand? Yes, teacher.
By the way, this is our rubric. You have to consider this
while doing your activity so that you will get a high schore.
