which Grade 12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual work setting and to enrich the
competencies provided by the school. With the four exits envisioned for SHS graduates-namely ,
higher education, entrepreneurship, employment or middle-level skills development-the first
batch of Grade 12 learners are expected to become full-fledge contributors to the social
development and nation -building.

Work immersion is a key subject under the SHS learners .The subject provides learners with
opportunities to become familiar with the workplace; for employment simulation, and to apply
their competencies in areas of specialization/ Applied subjects in authentic work
environments. The said learning experience that the students can get from it will surely enable
and help students as they familiarize themselves with the workplace simulation and apply their
competencies in their particular areas. The completion of work immersion is a prerequisite to
graduation under the k-12 program. It aims to home globally competitive citizens, with its
specialized circulum; gearing filipino students for further studies, employment or
entrepreneurship.Experience is considered to be one of lifes greatest teachers. As trainees ,we
can use it as motivation as we gain expertise in our respective fields. This experience will surely
help us not only for our life as students but also our future job as professional employees of the
country.
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL HIGH SCHOOL
HISTORY

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL- BACOLOD CITY

The foundation for the establishment of a Provincial High School in Negros Occidental was already
laid in 1901 by the Division Superintendent, George W. Beattie, so that when Act 372 of the
Philippine Commission was passed on March 7, 1901, empowering the Provincial Boards of the
country to provide funds for the erection or renting and other expenses for a secondary school in the
province, Beattie was ready for implementation of the plan, including the hiring of teachers in time
for the opening of the school on July 1, 1902.

Negros Occidental High School facade Sometime in 1902, former leaders of the Republica de
Negros, Ex-minister of Justice Antonio Ledesma Jayme and Ex-provincial Governor Melecio
Severino exerted efforts for the opening of a secondary school in Occidental Negros which they
named Instituto Rizal, now Negros Occidental High School. The Rizal Elementary School was first
founded in Bacolod City as "Instituto de Rizal" by Severino and Jayme.[2] However Severino was an
avowed nationalist, and was still governor of the province until May 1, 1901, so that his role in the
creation of the school was important. Jayme was Severino's rival for governor on the election of
1899, and his house was rented for the first classrooms and dormitories for the Institute. It is possible
that they were instrumental in helping the Division Superintendent and in naming the school Instituto
Rizal.

By the opening of the school in 1902, there were three teachers and 125 students taking academic
and normal courses in Instituto Rizal.

The establishment of the Instituto Rizal was not smooth. As of June 1902, only the Provincial
Treasurer of the Provincial Board was favorable to the school idea but the Governor (Leandro
Locsin) was "indifferent and the supervisor was avowed hostile". However the idea of a high school
was pushed through because the supervisor was not a member of the Provincial Board and the
Treasurer was an American who held sway in the Provincial Board.

Instituto Rizal was renting two spacious buildings for classrooms and separate dormitories for boy
and girls who reside outside Bacolod City. Mr. Ray Howell was the school principal. By July 1903,
Instituto Rizal had already four teachers with an average attendance of 166 students, an increase of
100 as compare to the attendance of the previous year. The school was closed from September 7 to
November 10, 1902, because of a cholera epidemic.

Instituto Rizal became Rizal Institute in compliance with Executive Order No. 44, series of 1912,
which mandated English as the official language of the Philippines, starting January 1, 1913, the
school authorities were prompted to officially adopt the name Rizal Institute. Don Antonio Jayme,
who owned lands and houses in Bacolod, provided the first classrooms and dormitories of the school,
which were rented using funds allocated by the provincial board.

In 1927, the permanent high school building was constructed at the present site. The construction was
finished about 1931. When classes were transferred to the newly constructed building in September
1931, the name inscribed in the building facade read, "Bacolod High School". This was because in
the public works program under the Appropriations Act of 1927, the name appearing was: "the
construction of the Bacolod High School". However, the name was never officially used, instead the
name Negros Occidental High School was used in all communications. NOGCHS In 1970, NOHS
was drastically changed to Negros Occidental General comprehensive High School (NOGCHS) by
virtue of R.A. 5694, series of 1970. It was passed in Congress without proper consultations from the
students and alumni. Enraged, the school alumni lead the legal battle to change it.

It took more than ten years of legal battle by the alumni and friends to eventually pass Batas
Pambansa No. 2193, series of 1983 which changed NOGCHS back to its old name, the Negros
Occidental High School.

TEAM LEADER

REFLECTION
Empowering those around you to be heard and valued makes the differences between a leader
who simply instructs and one who inspires.

Being a leader is not new to me. They would always appoint me to lead because maybe they see
a greatest potential on me. And yes, I was appointed to become a leader again during our Work
Immersion in Negros Occidental High School. And I didn't hesitate to take the challenge and full
responsibilities. Apparently, being a leader is not been easy for everyone. It takes courage and
determination to be able to accomplish what task has given. Every challenges will eventually
mold you to become the leader that you want to be.

As I went on our two weeks immersion, it indeed gives me hard times to manage my members
since i just met. The task will really test my patience to understand and keep going no matter
how difficult it would be. But i turned all adversities as my motivations to keep on holding. I told
myself that it is part of the process in which I could prepare myself to biggest problems in the
future.

While observing during the class, I suddenly realized that being a teacher is indeed difficult.
Aside from the fact that you should engage yourself with public speaking, you will really need
also to have time management. And I guess this course will suit me for having enjoyment
everytime I speak in front. A lot of people would always said that teaching is very suitable to me.
They see me as a future teacher someday, teacher who is strict to his students but a teacher with a
good heart. Though I dont wanna take this profession, but I know if teaching is what God has
prepared for me, He will make it happen.

FOREWORED

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for graduation. A Senior HighSchoolstudent
has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to thestudent’spostsecondary
goal. Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed toand become familiarwith work-
related environment related to their field of specializationto enhance theircompetence.
Specifically, the students are able to: (i) gain relevant andpractical industrial skillsunder the
guidance of industry experts and workers; (ii)appreciate the importance andapplication of the
principles and theories taught in school;(iii) enhance their technicalknowledge and skills; (iv)
enrich their skills incommunications and human relations; and (v)develop good work habits,
attitudes, appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them tomeet the needs andchallenges
of employment or higher education after graduation.

Academic institutions are faced with challenges particularly on the skills theyproducedwhich do
not match the needs of the industry. A significant number ofgraduates today are unableto fill the
job openings due to job-skill mismatch. A greatnumber of these skills found lacking
bycompanies are taught in the academe that is,technical, human resource and conceptual skills.
Inaddition to that, these same skillscan also be reinforced through on-the-job training programs.
On-the-job training (OJT)programs are course requirements providing an opportunity toapply the
theories, principles and ideas learned in the academe under supervision. These
trainingprogramsexpose the students to work realities which will ideally hone their skills and
preparethemonce they get out of the university or college.

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in

learnersthecompetencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or
joining theworld of work. To achieve greater congruence between basic education andthe
nation’sdevelopment targets, Work Immersion, a required subject has beenincorporated into
thecurriculum. This subject will provide learners with opportunities: (i)to become familiar with
thework place; (ii) for employment simulation; and (iii) to applytheir competencies in areas
ofspecialization/applied subjects in authentic workenvironments
INDIVIDUAL

REFLECTION
Work immersion honed my skills in my chosen filled of expertise though workimmersion I was
able to explore interact with people of various personality, get toknow the ideal of my future
career and most importantly, I get to develop my skills inmy chosen field with the hustle, fun and
learning that I’ve had in my work immersion Ialso get to know myself I realized what I really
want in the future I was able to reflecton the advantages and the disadvantages of my future
career. I know that I canalready adjust in my future work after graduation and I will be able to
pursue mydream job as a student.

I can say that over all my work immersion is great I learn alot while I’m exploring and learning
work immersion made realized for all thing that Ilack of and change me to become a better one
during our immersion I’ve learned alot of things that I can use in the near future. work
immersion is really a beneficial forme because it is where I discover the thing I can’t imagine to
do and on this stagewill say that I was thankful because of encountered and experiences this
because Ihave know the idea what will bring my chosen course to me in the near future and Iam
looking forward for that.

Work Immersion is not just about work, it is a training where we can develop and expand our
knowledge. Enhance our skills and improve our way of communication. We may not be
receiving salaries for working but we are learning from immersion.

At first, I thought working is easier than learning but it’s a lot more complicated than that
because you handle your own time, you practice your own knowledge, one wrong move and
you’ll need to start all over again.
DEVELOPMENT
PLANS
I want to be a successful business woman someday, There's a sense of pride that you get as a
business owner because entrepreneurship has no boundaries. No matter what your background,
education or experience level, you can succeed as a business owner with the right formula.

When starting their own businesses, entrepreneurs are not motivated by what you may think. The
main reason most people want to become their own boss is the freedom, satisfaction and
flexibility it offers them. Entrepreneurs need to embrace new technology and use it to their
benefit to continue growing their startups.

Successful women know their worth and are not afraid to charge for it. They invest in
themselves, they take risks that pay off, and they don't accept less than the best from any aspect
of their life- including relationships or work

I want to become a businesswoman as you have not to work for any person or organization. I will
be my boss. Furthermore, it gives you ample opportunities to solve real-life problems.

A successful person is someone who sets and achieves goals. Some people may define success as
being happy and fulfilled, while others may define it as having status and accomplishments.
Often when talking about success, all of these elements are relevant.

If a person has a goal and does not try to fulfil his goal, then he can never achieve success. To be
successful, a person needs to work hard and put in a lot of effort. To achieve your goal, you need
to chase after it, and you must be dedicated. Hard work and dedication are the two mantras of
being successful.
WORK
IMMERSION
HIGHLIGHTS
ESSAY BEFORE WORK IMMERSION
During the preparations for Work Immersion, I have always
been wondering how it feels to be working in a school. It filled
me up with so much excitement and at the same time I started to
be curious as my mind was popping up with questions such as
“will they like me if they get to know me and my capabilities?”
“Are my communication skills enough?”. Even with those, I
keep on telling myself to be calm and just be myself.

So, I prepared myself to start with the documents needed for

Work Immersion, I made sure all are complete. There is a
saying, “what you wear defines your personality” that’s why I
made sure that the clothes I am going to wear are properly kept
in a clean place to avoid stains and dirt on its fabric. I believe in
first impression lasts therefore my goal is to make a good
impression not just with the knowledge I have but also with my
physical appearance.

I am looking forward to experiencing a job environment where I

can apply my learnings into practice. I hope this work
immersion will help improve my skills, knowledge and
hopefully, I’ll be able to handle work and manage my time even
if I’m under pressure.
