YEAR 8 DT APP – Pop Up Book Project

These tasks will help you expand your knowledge of Design Technology and the skills required for the Pop Up/
Interactive Book project.
1. Present your work on A4 paper; ensure you write the title and your name at the top of each page.
2. You should spend 3-5 hours on this project.
3. You must complete all parts of each task; however the challenge is optional!

1 Pop Up / Answer the following questions/ complete the following tasks
Interactive book o Create an A4 mood board (collage) using magazines or images from the internet with
mood board examples of images which show different pop up book or interactive book features.
o Include at least 10 different pictures which show different examples of these features.
Challenge – Label all your drawings and explain what’s good and not so good about each
image.
2 Visual analysis of Answer the following questions/ complete the following tasks
an illustrators o Research the one of the following illustrators (who you did not analyse in class): Dapo
work Adeola, Vashti Harrison, Rikin Parekh or Judith Kerr.
o Select one of the images you like of their illustrations and draw this image accurately and
in detail.
o Add colour and mark making to this image, using colour pencils, felt tips or paint.
Challenge- Take a photograph (use a phone) which is inspired by the illustrators work. Draw
the photograph you have take in the style of the illustrators work. Add colour and mark making
to your drawing. Add annotation to explain what you did.
3 Written analysis Answer the following questions/ complete the following tasks
of an Illustrators o Use the same illustrator from task 2.
work o Select one of their images. Use the attached sheet to help you complete a written analysis
of one of their illustrations. You should write in full sentences and use keywords and
include your opinion.
Challenge – Research the illustrator you selected, produce a fact file of facts about the
illustrator and how they became an illustrator, in your own words.
4 Design Answer the following questions/ complete the following tasks
o Use the illustrator you selected from task 2 and task 3.
o Use their inspiration to create a design for the front cover of a pop up card.
o You need to decide on the theme/ occasion for the card, draw accurately and add colour.
o Add labels to explain the pop up mechanism you would use.
Challenge- Create the actual pop up mechanisms using materials available at home to make
your card function.
5 Environmental Answer the following questions/ complete the following tasks
impact of o Select 6 different products, which are all made from different materials. E.g. Plastic, metal,
materials wood, or cardboard.
o Draw each product accurately.
o Identify what specific material they are made from.
o For each material, research if the material is harmful to the environment, can it be
recycled or does the material biodegrade? Annotate your drawings with your findings
from your research.
Challenge- Find images of the negative environmental impact of materials such as plastics and
metals. Use annotation to explain what is happening/ has happened in each image.

6b Numeracy test Revise the following topics and complete the numeracy test on SMHW
Angles, unit of measurements, scale and scale factor, conversion of measurements
