    DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW
    The University of New Mexico hospitals will use standards with internal signs throughout UNM
    Hospitals.

    AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
    UNMH Facility & Planning approval of internal signs.

    General Information and Desired Outcome


    (1) The signage design for all areas of the hospital will be consistent.
    (2) Unless necessary to inform patients and visitors of essential information, no other type of
    signage including “name plates” will be placed on doors. Nameplate signs may be used
    on desks for those individuals with a requirement to conduct business with the public,.
    (3) New signage in renovated areas will be consistent with the system developed in the
    hospital.
    (4) Temporary Signs- When temporary signs are necessary due to construction, temporary
    changes in processes, temporary seasonal precautionary, etc., procedures outlined in the
    interim Life Safety policy will be followed.
    4.1 Foam core with vinyl lettering or computer generated signage that is laminated may
    be used on a temporary basis.

    Procedure:
    (1) The Director of Facilities & Planning is responsible for management of the signage
    program and will install approved signs.
    (2) All requests for signs will be approved by the appropriate Area Administrator/ Executive
    Director/ Area Director and submitted to the Director of Facilities Engineering &
    Planning via memorandum. The request will be reviewed to ensure policies in place are
    followed.
