E. Lesson Proper
“Did you enjoy our activity?” “Yes ma’am!”

“Now, is everybody ready to listen?” “Yes ma’am!”

“Today, we will discover the different types of

speech context and their use. Your task is to
distinguish types of speech context and identify
social situations in which each speech context is
appropriate to use.”

“But first let us define Speech context.”

“Who would like to read the definition of Speech

context? Yes go ahead.”

Speech Context - is about the environment where

the communication happens and how the message (A student reads the definition)
is relayed during the process. By knowing the
speech context of a conversation, we can easily
understand the message and we can make
feedback clearly and appropriately.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Speech context refers to the situation or

environment and the circumstances in which
communication occurs”

“Let me ask you something, do you think speech

context is important? Why?”

“Who else would like to give their insight?” (Students answer may vary)

“Thank you, very good. Your anwers are all (Students answer may vary)
correct.”

“Speech context is important because it helps you

connect and create relationship with the reader. it
helps you communicate your point of view clearly
making it easier to understand. it allows you and
others to be more creative.”

“We have several types of Speech context based

on how it was done or who are the people involved
in the conversation”

“The first type of Speech context is Intrapersonal”

“Can someone please read it”

Intrapersonal - The communication that happens (A student reads the definition)

within oneself. This appears that the source and the
receiver of the message is the speaker himself.

“Very well said”

“Intrapersonal Communication may be seen in

situations involving talking to or writing to oneself,
even thinking to oneself. The word “intra” denotes
“within”.”

“In here the speaker and the listener are one and
the same: you. You send the message to yourself
and you yourself receive that message.”

Example: Talking to oneself like repeating a song

heard while looking in the mirror, memorizing out
loud a dialogue in a play.

“Now, can you also give me examples of (Students answer may vary)
Intrapersonal?”

“Very good”

“The second type of Speech context is

Interpersonal”

“Who would like to read the definition of Speech (A student reads the definition)
context? Yes go ahead.”

Intrapersonal - The communication happens

between two or more persons. Depending on the
relationship of these people, the communication
can be formal, casual, informal, or intimate.”

“Thank you so much”

“This communication involves two or more people.

The conversation can be formal or informal,
intimate or casual depending on the relationship
people involved have.”

Example: You offered feedback on the speech

performance of your classmate.

“Now, can you also give me examples of (Students answer may vary)
Interpersonal?”

“Very good”

There are two types of interpersonal

communication:

- Dyad Communication - communication that (A student reads the definition)

occurs between two people. It involves two
active participants who alternately function
as sender and receiver of the message

“In Dyad Communication there is one Speaker and

one Listener come together to exchange thoughts,
ideas, opinions, ‘and information.”

Example:
-You talked to your mother that you need an
illustration board for your activity tomorrow.
-Your doctor asks about what you want to consult it.

“Can you also give me examples of Dyad

Communication?” (Students answer may vary)

“Very good”

- Small Group - This refers to communication

that involves at least three but not more than
twelve people engaging in a face-to-face (A student reads the definition)
interaction to achieve a desired goal.

“Small group can consist of three but not more than

twelve people are part of the conversation. This
type of communication is present during
brainstorming or collaborating with other people.”

Example:

-Your father told the whole family that the trip to

Hundred Islands will not push through because of
the tropical depression.

“Can you also give me examples of Small Group?” (Students answer may vary)

“Very good”

“Before we proceed, Any questions so far”

“Are you able to follow?”

“Next from the list, we have Public

Communication.”

“Who would like to read it?” (A student reads the definition)

Public Communication - is different from Dyadic

or Small Group Communication in that one
Speaker addresses many Listeners, collectively
known as an Audience. There is no interchanging
of the Speaker and Listener roles.

“Thank you so much”

“In Public Communication the speech is well

prepared, the speaker is dressed appropriately,
and the listeners are set to listen to the message.”

"Unlike in interpersonal and small group, the

channels are more exaggerated. The voice is
louder and the gestures are more expansive
because the audience is bigger.”
Example:
-You deliver a graduation speech to your batch.
-You participate in a declaration, oratorical, or
debate contest watched by a number of people.

“Can you also give me examples of Public (Students answer may vary)
Communication?”

“Very good”

“Before we proceed, Any questions so far” “None ma’am. Yes ma’am!”

“Are you able to follow?”

“Lastly, we have Mass Communication”

“Can you please read it, yes go ahead.” (A student reads the definition)

Mass Communicaton - This refers to

communication that takes place through television,
radio, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards,
Types of media.

“Thank you so much.”

“This happens when television, social media,

newspaper, magazines, and the likes were used as
channels to relay the message.”
