email address john.ernstjr@uscp.gov, was interviewed via
telephone by FBI Specila Agent (SA) RILEY PALMERTREE and SA VINCE FREDERIC.
General Counsel for the US CAPITOL POLICE LISA WALTERS was also on the call.
After being advised of the identities of the interviewing Agents, of General
Counsel WALTERS also being on the call, and of the nature of the
interview, ERNST provided the following information:

ERNST has been a police officer for the UNITED STATES CAPITOL POLICE
(USCP) since April 2016. On January 6, 2021, ERNST was working at the US
CAPITOL in an official capacity.

ERNST remembers working on the Lower West Terrace at HT18 on January 6,

2021 and was standing near a row of bike racks.

A notable incident that occurred was when ERNST and other officers
noticed a group of protestors who broke through the fence and grabbed
at/pulled on an officer. ERNST went into the crowd to help pull that officer
back to regain the fence line.

A specific encounter ERNST remembers from this day was when he was hit in
the arm by an object, possibly a 2x4 or a metal fence. ERNST remembers being
bruised from this hit but did not see who assaulted him.

SA Palmertree then emailed ERNST two photos and one video in three
separate emails. In both photos and the video, ERNST identified himself as
the officer wearing the black face covering and beanie with logo.
Specifically, in the first image ERNST received, ERNST responded that he
(ERNST) is in the "V" between the older man and the other civilian. In the
second image sent, in which the officer with the black face covering and
beanie with logo is marked with a red circle, ERNST responded that he
(ERNST) is the officer circled. In the video sent, ERNST responded that he
