STATEMENT OF PURPOSE(SOP) – WHY POC

My name is Ankit Shetty. I have come far in my 27 years of life from schooling in my hometown to a
graduation in prestigious university of NIT Rourkela. Post-graduation I completed my ideal life of
pursuing a core job as a metallurgist in Automotive axles. Work was decently challenging and provided
an exposure to the different aspects of production like Production, quality, and Manufacturing. It also
trained me in developing a proper attitude and develop my communication and teamwork skill. When I
left the company as senior engineer due to family emergency, I had the time to reflect as well as think
about the future. Taking this break as an opportunity I decided to upskill myself by joining the prestigious
University – IIM VISHAKAPATNAM

Lacking the appreciation for POR jobs, I had almost no position of responsibility related work during
graduation. This made it extremely difficult to adapt to the management position due to difficulty in
planning and prioritizing tasks during my work experience. This allowed me to understand the importance
and necessity of POR activities. With that in mind I tried to be active in my work area to pursue POR
tasks. During my first year I got the opportunity to lead the 5s initiative in the production department
during a companywide 5s policy. Though I could only improve the accessibility in workplace as well as
proper clarity in production chart, it helped me attain some communication and team leading skill. When I
was promoted to senior engineer, I was able to attain more POR activities. I was able to lead a team
through the IATF Certification phase in 2016 as well as SAE certification in 2017. Though there were
multiple improvement suggested during the SAE certification, it was ultimately a good learning
experience. I was fortunate to get admission into IIM V where I could have POR activities and I could
practice and learn without the fear of failure. I can also avail the learnings of the seniors as well as the
faculty who can train as well as test me.

For the first stint for POR, Point of Contact (POC) would be ideal for me because

• POC will be a bridge between the students and the SAC body. As the number of students is low
and there is the presence of SAC above this would be an ideal learning environment without
being too overwhelming to manage
• It would be an efficient way to interact with students and faculty as I can learn how to manage an
extremely qualified people which would be useful for my career
• It would allow for direct contact/interaction with SAC body which involve members with high
degree of experience in POR. One couldn’t ask for better mentor than these
