February 16, 2024

Activities: Math 8 Vocabulary Word

Date: February 16, 2024
Sections Involved: 8-Narra, 8-Acacia, 8-Mahogany, and 8-Gmelina
Activity Objective: Enhancing Vocabulary Retention

On February 16, 2024, the Math 8 class engaged in a unique and interactive activity
called "Math 8 Vocabulary Word." This activity aimed to reinforce students' understanding and
retention of mathematical terms and their definitions.

Each student was assigned a specific math term, with the term written on the front side
of a card, and its corresponding definition on the back. The students were instructed to
individually read and memorize the definition of their assigned term.

Once the students felt confident in memorizing their respective definitions, they were
called upon one-by-one. When called, the student whose definition was being read had to
quickly write their assigned term on the board within a time limit of 10 seconds.

The activity commenced with students eagerly reviewing their assigned terms and
definitions. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and enthusiasm as each student
prepared to showcase their knowledge. As the activity progressed, students were called upon
randomly. Tension filled the air as each student awaited their turn to demonstrate their
understanding. Some students exhibited nervousness, while others exuded confidence.

Outcome:

Overall, the "Vocabulary Word Catch-Up Friday" activity proved to be highly engaging
and beneficial for the students. It provided an opportunity for them to actively participate in
their learning process, reinforcing their understanding of mathematical terminology.

Students demonstrated varying levels of proficiency in recalling their assigned terms

under the pressure of the time limit. For some, the activity served as a confidence booster,
reaffirming their grasp of the material. Others found it challenging but acknowledged the
importance of quick recall in mathematics.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Math 8 Vocabulary Word activity was a resounding success. It not
only facilitated vocabulary retention but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and healthy
competition among the students. Moving forward, similar interactive activities will continue to
be integrated into the curriculum to promote active learning and enhance students'
mathematical proficiency.
