CATCH UP FRIDAY PROGRAM

Narrative Report

Create a reading routine. A habit that improves language abilities, understanding, inspires imagination, fosters
confidence, and expands vocabulary. As a result, DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) encourages every learner to
participate in the Catch up Friday Program in order to increase their interest in reading. This program is another step
toward correcting our wonderful children' low reading ability.

To measure the program's impact, 27 Grade 1, 42 Grade 2, 40 Grade, 33 Grade 4, 47 Grade 5, and 50 Grade 6
students participated in this simultaneous reading assignment across the country. Various reading materials with
various stories or topics were employed and read to demonstrate their enthusiasm to address the said program.

The goal of the program and the activities planned for the day were explained to the learners during a brief
orientation.

We (the teacher) started the lesson by reading a selection of stories. Following that, volunteers were invited to re-
read the story aloud, allowing them to actively participate while also improving their reading skills. We also initiated
a discussion on the elements of a story, encouraging them to analyze and comprehend the key components such as
characters, setting, plot, lesson, and theme.

We gave them the flexibility to chose their own reading materials. Pre-reading was done. They took notes on the
challenging words and then used a dictionary to better grasp them. They were encouraged to read and comprehend
the ideas expressed in the stories they chose. This activity was designed to help students develop independent
reading habits and enhance their comprehension skills.
We asked thought-provoking questions about the stories to gauge their comprehension. This enabled students to think
critically and explain their interpretations, so improving their analytical and communication skills.
To strengthen vocabulary and language abilities, a spelling activity was also carried out. The students were instructed
to select a number that linked to a specific word. They were then required to correctly spell the word and utilize it in
a sentence. This practice aims to improve students spelling skills and encourage the use of newly learnt words in
context.
For a large group of learners, they performed the reading session by assigning leaders to choose the preferred
resources. Some words were new and unknown to them in the primary grades, as was the pronounciation.

We responded swiftly to their inquiries in order to clarify them. We also told the other groups to write down any
tough words they came across and deal with it one after the other. To reduce noise and disruptions, we evaluated
learnings by group.
Following the reading session, the students participated in a variety of post-reading activities and recreational games,
which added a sense of joy and entertainment to the day's events.
Some students participated in a re-enactment of one of the stories they had just read to further immerse themselves .
This activity gave learners the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and acting abilities while bringing the
characters and plot to life. The learners gained confidence and exhibited their grasp of the story through this re-
enactment.
Following the re-enactment, the mood became colorful and dynamic as the students performed a variety of Zumba
dances.
To add a sense of humor to the day, the students took turns telling jokes. This practice not only made the participants
laugh and smile, but it also motivated them to improve their communication and presentation abilities. Sharing jokes
enables students to show their creativity while also engaging in lighthearted conversation with their peers.
To further stimulate their thinking and problem-solving abilities, a game of Pinoy Henyo was introduced. The
learners were urged to use critical thinking, good communication, and teamwork while playing this game.
The post-reading activities and leisure games gave the students a well-rounded experience. These activities not only
reinforced the teachings from the stories, but also encouraged physical fitness, creativity, comedy, and critical
thinking skills. The students actively participated in and loved the activities, creating a positive and engaging
learning atmosphere.
This "Catch up Friday Program" is a multi-tasking activity that requires commitment to produce good results for the
benefit of all learners. Mabuhay!
