Multistage Sampling
A combination of two or more SRS, you must go
through different stages to collect your sample.

We go through different stages of SRSs to get

the actual sample
Random Digits Table

The random digits table consists of a long

string of random numbers, which can help us
doing an SRS.
Using The Random Digits Table
To use the random digits table:

1. Label each member of

the population with a
number.
2. Each label has two
digits.
3. Use the table and read
the string of numbers
two digits at a time.
Using The Random Digits Table
Example: if we need sample size of four
• The first number on the
table 19 so person 19 will
be part of the sample
• The second number is 22
so person 22 will be part of
the sample.
• The third number is 39 but
the population size only 30
so we will ignore each
number more than 30
Questionnaires and Surveys
A questionnaire: is a research
instrument that consists of a set of
questions or other types of prompts that
aims to collect information from a
respondent.

A survey: collect information from a

targeted group of people about their
opinions, behaviour, or knowledge.
Designing a Questionnaire
2. Plan how it will be administered

We can choose :
A) Personal interview

B) Phone
C) Written questionnaire
2. Plan how it will be administered

D) Online questionnaire

To reach more than just current

customers, use an online survey method.
The online survey helps in creating the
questionnaire and doing the analysis
much easier.
3. Write the questionnaire
Take each of the things in your
consideration when you write the
questionnaire to find out about and
write related questions:
q Gender
q The academic year
q Enrolment status (full or part-time)
q Faculty
q Department

questionnaire as if you were seeing it
for the first time.
q Read the instruction, and fill out the answers
q See what could be confusing.
q Make sure the spelling and grammar are
correct
q Go through the list of questions to find out and
put ticks next to the questions that provide the

questions with no tick
and decide if they
need to be in the
questionnaire.
q Consider how you
would record the
responses.
4. Desk check
1. Make a table or spreadsheet with a row for
each person and a column for each question.
2. Check to see that your questionnaire is easy to
code
