This famous quote by a prominent Irish poet Oscar Wilde contains a meaningful message
that reminds and teaches me to always be my true self. Back then, I used to wear a fake
mask when it came to interacting and communicating with people. Under the critical eyes of
other people, trying to be yourself is a formidable task. It is better off to have some sort of
protection against people’s criticism. However, soon I came to realize that if I am not who I
am, then who am I? I missed numerous opportunities to create and develop relationships in
my life. I was isolated and depressed. Then, everything changed completely since the day I
learnt expressing myself and acceptance towards criticism. I stepped out of my safe zone
and fully exposed myself to everyone. Thankfully, I was accepted with care and sincerity.
Most importantly, not only did I learn to be an unique individual, but also I would always
thrive to be a better version of myself. People usually take this life lesson for granted, but
for me, it takes courage, fierce determination and great effort to be my inner self and
upgrade it, gradually, day by day. Human beings are imperfect species with still flaws. Even
though I could never live to satisfy every single person’s expectation, I will at least try to be
myself and the best version of myself.

Vision statement:

First and foremost, I am aiming towards working in a marketing department, specifically

marketing in the gaming area. Moreover, if I am financially wealthy enough, I would afford a
medium sized house in the suburbs of Ho Chi Minh City, since I could not handle the hustle
and bustle of the city with a fast living pace. I will get myself a dedicated wife that would
care and love me the way I would. Together, we would do anything we want, travel around
the world, experiencing cultures, meeting people and trying exquisite cuisines.

Mission statement:

I acknowledged that in order to achieve the big goals that I have set, smaller objectives with
elaborate preparation and systematic planning are required. Now, during my time at the
university, within my capabilities, I will give my best to finish all of the exercises that are
assigned by my lecturers and meet all deadlines. I will be a focused and dedicated
participant in most of the classes to gain the necessary knowledge for my future career.
Moreover, in terms of interpersonal relationships, I will participate in extracurricular activities
like career-oriented seminars, soft-skill seminars, etc. expanding not only practical and
professional knowledge but also, making new friends and developing an extensive network.

Strengths:

In my opinion, strengths are powerful tools of a person aiding themselves significantly in

seeking and developing their careers. From my point of view, among my handy gadgets,
good listening skill is the one that I am proud of the most. I have the patience to listen to
everybody’s stories and problems; and respond to them in the most empathetic and well-
mannered way, therefore, helping me to attain knowledge from my peers as well as build up
relationships from gaining trust of my friends. According to the IUP Journal of Soft Skills
(2011), listening is a crucial skill that one must have to establish quality relationships and
enhance job effectiveness and productivity in the workplace. Moreover, an article by
Coursera (2023) mentions that listening is one of the core skills in marketing since it helps
you to discover the insights of the customer. This means that if I could keep on mastering
listening, I would have a comparative advantage over the others in marketing, leading to
career advancement.

As an adapter, I can work effectively and efficiently under different circumstances with
various types of people. Thus, adaptability provides me the flexibility to overcome upcoming
unknown challenges and welcome opportunities with ease. Along with listening, adaptability
is one of the vital skills to acquire when working in the marketing department. Peter
Drucker, the guru of modern marketing, mentioned that marketing involves working
deliberately and synchronically with other enterprises in a company (Jerry Grzegorzek,
2022). Therefore, adaptability is required to make delicate and appropriate adjustments to
the changing situations and environments that marketing demands. Having adaptability in
my inventory, my future dream of becoming a marketer will be more easily pursued.

Numerous conditions where I have to work spontaneously with little time of preparation
have given me the ability to improvise. Moreover, improvisation incentivises me to always
remain calm under most stressful predicaments and form creative solutions to the
problems. Research has demonstrated that improvisation in business and organizational
activities places a crucial role in determining firm performance (Volkan Yeniaras, Anthony
Di Benedetto & Mumin Dayan, 2021). Therefore, in the near future, I believe improvising
skills would be one of the requirements that firms look for in recruitment. So, it is crucial for
me to continue to train improvisation as it could be a necessary tool to make me look more
appealing in the eyes of the employer.

Weaknesses:

For most people that I know, they are admirable individuals with great socializing skills.
However, for me, even though I have learnt to be more sociable, deep inside me there is
still an irrational fear of communicating with new people as I find building new relationships
is an unpleasant and daunting experience. Consequently, I tend to stick with familiarized
individuals as I feel shy and overwhelmed when confronting new folks, without knowing the
opportunities I could have been given when making contacts with them. Since relationship
engaging ability can be restrained by a lack of social skills, resulting in valuable and
meaningful relationships being omitted and missed out (Kathleen Hoy, Samara Roher,
Andrea Duncan, 2023), I am well-aware that low sociability would be a blocking mountain
preventing myself from career advancement. Therefore, I must develop tactics to enhance
my sociability which involves communicating and interacting with lots of people like
volunteering, attending social events and participating in social groups.

Procrastination can be an insoluble problem that most people facing and it is also the
problem that I do find myself struggling as I bear the bad habit of delaying and postponing
my tasks and assignments to the point where crisis appears and I must stressfully exhaust
myself in order to get the jobs done. Procrastination is a common problem among university
students, causing poor mental health, low academic performance and constrained career
options (Arpana Amarnath et al., 2023). As a result, I experience frequent exhaustion,
mental illness leading to low productivity in work and my university life. In order to
overcome this weakness, I have created and strictly followed a mindfulness training, since
mindfulness is determined to bring about benefits to self-regulation ;plus, higher
mindfulness results in lower procrastination (Hassan Soleimani Rad et al., 2022), and self-
discipline training plan, setting clear goals and timeline, building a scientific routine, shutting
down electronic devices when in work and study to avoid temptation and remembering to
stay motivated to avoid giving up mid-process. Procrastinating is an unhealthy habit that
affects my well-being in general. Therefore, I am looking forward to getting rid of it as soon
as possible to further enhance work productivity.

Opportunities:

The higher demand along with rising growth and development of the gaming industry lately
have shown to be an ample opportunity for marketers to enter and do business in the
industry as it has proved to be attractive and profitable. In recent years, the gaming industry
has experienced explosive growth, with revenues surpassing those of the film and music
industries combined. Statistically, the figures of gaming industry revenue have experienced
significant growth from 120.4 billion in 2017 to about 257.1 billion USD in 2023. This trend
is estimated to keep on growing in the upcoming years to about more than 321 billion USD
in 2026 (PwC). This growth is due in part to the increasing popularity of esports, which
involves competitive video gaming tournaments that attract millions of viewers and offer
significant prize money. Moreover, since gaming is a highly competitive industry, there is no
doubt that the role of marketing is indispensable (Shannon Flynn, 2023). Obviously, gaming
is a lucrative and competitive industry that triggers demand for marketers. Therefore, I must
seize this great opportunity and become the best marketer I can be.
The International School of Business is an institution establishing a professional,
educational and exciting environment where students are fostered to confidently
experiment, learn, shine and express their full potential. The lecturers and teachers in the
faculty are practitioners with abundant highly qualified certificates and high levels of
expertise who always provide a rich amount of knowledge and practical real-life experience
to the class. Not only do they have a high profession, but they are also dedicated people
who always help their students to develop skills and take one step closer to the success of
their chosen career. Thus, the classrooms are well equipped with modern learning gadgets
which really enhances the learning experience. Class sessions are operated in an
interactive and collaborative way where students are expected to speak up and express
their own characteristics and ideas in front of people which is beneficial for them to develop
public speaking skills. As for me, these classes have aided me well in confronting and
overcoming the fear of public speaking. Furthermore, in ISB, I am surrounded with diverse
and talented peers which can also provide me a better understanding of the field that I am
studying. Environment has a significant impact on people and their behavior
(Confucianism). Therefore, the learning and training environment in the ISB institution
would be a great opportunity for me to develop myself more.

Threats:

Since the gaming industry is an explosive market with high revenue potential, every
business firm wants a piece of this “gaming cake”, leading to an incredibly competitive
characteristic of the market (Gaming Marketing Genie, 2018). Thus, there are so many
established players in the market that an invisible barrier is created making the market
penetration of the newcomers rather difficult and risky. Moreover, survivability under such a
high risk high rewards environment is rather precarious without any innovative or
differentiated strategy. In addition, the target audience in this market is picky and hard to
please as their tastes of games changes as day goes by (Gaming Marketing Genie, 2021).
Therefore, as a marketer in this field, I must firmly grasp not only a detailed innovative
marketing plan to differentiate my gaming products from that of my competitors but also the
insights and expectations of my audience for customer engaging and alluring marketing
strategies. In order to accomplish this task, marketers must always keep themselves up-to-
date with the latest trends and customer preferences, utilize social media for digital
marketing campaigns. This seems to be a tough challenge for a marketer in the gaming
industry like me, therefore, I must be well-prepared with sufficient skills and high proficiency
to get myself a head start advantage.

With the requirement of heavy workload that my career demands, I am concerned that this
would be a dire threat to my health as I do not own a healthy body like the others since the
day I was born. Being bombarded with mountains of work sometimes has caused me to
suffer from exhaustion. Even though I have grown more familiarized with excessive
workload, I still find it difficult to have a work-life balance. The heavier the workload, the
longer the recovery time that it takes me to get over exhaustion. As work-life balance
results in better job satisfaction (Wassim J. Aloulou et al., 2023) and productivity, I must
establish a nutritious and effective workout plan and scientifical timetable to improve my
health, in order to tackle the enormous workload that my future career demands.
