Off-Campus Activity Reflection Paper

During our first and last off-campus activity as a 4th year student, our first stop was Gardenia.
Visiting Gardenia offers various lessons The step-by-step process of their bread production made me
realize the importance of precision and quality control in maintaining consistent product standards. How
the technology contributes to efficiency, consistency, and hygiene in the manufacturing process in the
food industry, as we saw the machineries used in the whole process as we tour around Gardenia.
Together with this is the quality control, as it also contributes to consumer’s trust as well as brand
reputation.

Our next stop is the Fort Santiago. This was not originally included in our notarized waiver, but as
an alternative, as it was explained to us after OCA, Solomon Tours exchanged Lamoiyan Corporation,
Department of Budget and Management/ Department of Finance, and Bureau of Internal Revenue for
Fort Santiago and National Museum as the first mentioned are not available as of the moment. As we
paid the original price of our OCA, setting aside the sudden change of itineraries, we enjoyed and take
many pictures together, as we appreciate the architectural design of Fort Santiago and recognizing the
influence of Spanish military architecture in the construction of the fort. We also learned about the
various roles of Fort Santiago while understanding its contributions in the Philippine history. In addition,
we’re able to understand more the importance of historical sites in fostering a sense of pride and
connection to one’s heritage. Next to our itinerary is the National Museum of Natural History. Same with
the Fort Santiago, as our time is limited, some of us didn’t get to finish the whole building as we are busy
appreciating different galleries. One of my knowledge earned here is that it might impact our
understanding of the natural world while learning more about environmental conservation and
sustainability.

2nd to the last is the Art in Island. Island Art comes in second to last. The only itinerary that was
adhered to was this one. Since we don't have much time left, we capture a lot of photos inside before
moving on to the Mall of Asia, where we will have dinner. Our bus had an accident on the way home,
and we were thereafter moved to another bus. Even though everything related to the accident has been
resolved, the mental and emotional harm we suffered is cannot be guaranteed. We were expecting our
department to at least get in touch with us to talk about counseling and address any additional inquiries
regarding the accident and waiver, but we never heard back. Having stated that, they are also
anticipating for us to reach out. It is reported that they are waiting for our communication with them.
Even though some of the questions are addressed, they are not entirely answered because our adviser
and the Solomon Tours representative are not with our department dean throughout the meeting. Even
though the attendees of the meeting are not yet satisfied with the outcome, we made the decision to
move past it and process our own trauma in order to cope with it while also developing empathy and
compassion for others whose also with us during the whole incident. A particular kind of expressions
which is not served to us.
