Short story.

LIFE JOURNEY

Once there was a village by name karipatti which is in the district of salem. The narrator of the
story is twenty-three years old boy. The story life journey is all about the narrator by name deva,
the ups and downs of the boy had explored in the story. The tremendous changes have taken
place in his life. The friends circle is very vast in manner. Most of the time Deva disobeyed the
words of advices of his parents. In his village, the villagers used to spend much time with him
and used to share many personal things with him but he did not know the actually reason behind
it. Deva’s one brother by name inba who is a sports man, recently he got placed in Loyola
college, Chennai as a basketball player. Deva was very happy just because of the friends
surrounded him always. They used to enjoy their life in a very delightful and cheerful manner.
The parents and teachers of the narrator were very much afraid of the results of 10 th standard but
by the god’s grace he got pass mark and he was very poor in English subject but however he got
just thirty-five marks. The whole family was happy for this. Here the narrator mentioned the
names of his village friends Stalin, Deepan, Arul, Gogul, Silva, Anand, Nelson, Gilbert, Danil,
Francies, Inba, and Anbu they were all the friends of the narrator always they were together, they
lived a fruitful life at the young age but now everyone was separated because there was no other
go because being an adult boy or a man he had to take of the family and all the burden will stand
on the one man so in the same way all of them segregated and even some of them migrated to
other places to earn money, this was the condition of the friends of narrator’s friends. In the
meantime, the narrator forgot to share his experience that he underwent to seminarian of st.
Monfort congreciation, that was the place where he groomed himself and he got interest learning
English because he was very poor in English and the narrator mentioned before itself that he was
very poor in the language called English. When the narrator was in novice towards brotherhood,
he was surrounded by the people from other states such as jar Kent, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra,
Mahrastra, Andhra Pradesh. The narrator and his friend by name Stalin who is also considered as
the best friend of the narrator, Deva. The director of the house bro. Paulraj who encouraged
everyone and particularly Deva, the narrator. The narrator was very much inspired and motivated
by the director, the narrator says that he did not any English teacher like him. All the grammar,
parts of speech, active voice and passive voice, loud reading practice, morning Bible reading and
giving practice for conducting prayer device, all these kinds of activities really improved them a
lot especially me in good manner, not only this but also many. Including narrator totally they
were 30 in number, all of from various culture, language, tradition and mindset of the people, in
this connection the narrator mentioned one comical incident, that when the director was taking
call for them under the hug tree, the narrators friend by name Joseph who ran way to hit the
squirrel it was very new for the narrator to see it whereas in Tamilnadu it would be looking very
weird. During the Sunday time the narrator used to go with the jar Kent people, they used to kill
all the living creatures on the tree by hitting them, their endurance power is incredible it is just
because of the food items that they prefer to eat. The narrator faced lot of discrimination and
problems because the groupism in among the people, mainly the narrator and his own friend
Stalin underwent many problems because they were less in number when compare to other
people from other state. The narrator found problems in food and mingling with his own friends
and later as the days moves on the everything was alright. On the other side the narrator was
gained a lot main English language just because he was surrounded by other state people he
could not convey any message in tail so he got good atmosphere to learn the language, he was
very happy at the end of the day. Most of time the narrator was appreciated by the director in the
house, later he mingled with all other state friends, it was a very good experience for him. The
director used to conduct test every day and teaching a particular concept or a parts of speech or
any sentence pattern and the test was like competition the narrator and all others used to
participate enthusiastically. Once the narrator was the taking care of the garden and the rabbit
there he found an anaconda snake was very huge, it was mesmerizing and shaking because in
Tamilnadu that kinds of snakes could not find but there in Maharashtra it is very normal. On the
next day the narrator, Deva was very afraid of going to the garden and others just laughed at him.
There in balasha where the narrator got a very good friend by name roni joseph karketta who had
hidden talents and musician. Josepj was very close to the narrator and stalin. Narrator was a very
good all sports and games mainly basketball player. The narrator was sent to study for the higher
education in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The name of the college is Loyola College. The was
considered as a junior brother all the students including teachers gave very good respect and
appreciation and in the first day of the class one of the teachers told that all the brothers from
various congergation should be role model to the student but the narrator just felt that he was
also a student he might have done some mistakes and that was a co- education college, the
brothers were also not that calm, patience, they had done all the naughty things and so on. The
narrator was happy because he was able to communicate well in English and this is considered to
the tremendous change in narrator, not only the language but also in behavior as well. Deva
studied till 11;30 pm and sometime even 12:00 0 clock in the night, he just made this much of
effort to get only pass mark because his capacity is that much low in manner. Unfortunately, the
language called Sanskrit was given as the second language in his intermediate education, really
he suffered a lot and on the another side the Sanskati teacher was very strict but also the narrator
overcame everything, finally he completed his intermediate education successfully and returned
to home happily because the he and his friend could come their home once in a year. They did
not want to go to the seminary again due to the situation of the family and changing of the
desires and obligations and so on. Deva chose to study MA English literature in Loyola College,
Mettala which is in the district of Rasiburam. He was basketball player in the college and
university participants even at the time he did not get atmosphere to speak in English in this
connection he himself was very poor in education and his friends were even more poor so that
was unfortunate circumstance. Deva was recognized as a basketball player in the college. In
Loyola hostel many competition ware conducted due to hostel day so participated in two
competitions namely just a minute and poem writing, he got first place in both events with this it
is understood that he was somewhat good in language and enthusiastic. Quite often he used to
phone to his friends to communicate, the friends who are from other states in order to develop his
communication skills. Many would not get this kinds of opportunities to proceed or develop.
When he was final year in the college he was asked to do MC for the hostel day function and he
did well. In sixth semester he kept two arrears but he hid to his parents and he put admission in
Sacred Heart College, trupattue. He chose to study MA English Literature. He knew that he kept
arrears after a month in MA Literature only the additional principal knows it and some of his
friends, he went to write, the exams a day before he slept in the Lurthu Matha church whole
night and on the day morning rushed to the exam center, wrote well. He returned to Sacred Heart
College happily. He began his life peacefully in the sacred heart college as a MA student that
was the place where he learned lot of skills, particularly he developed self-confidence, trying to
solve and to overcome the adversities. For the first time he enacted a drama by name Julius
Caesar infect he played the role of Caesar in the drama, this was the first time for him claiming
on the stage, it was in English and unforgettable for him. Through which it is understood that he
was building confident in himself in this connection he was asked to give feedbacks for the
professors and participated in elocution competition in English he got third prize in the
interdepartmental. Deva was learning a lot day- by- day in the college life, even there is a
gradual growth in his academic activities kept arrear in two subjects then one subject eventually
cleared all the paper, he felt himself very proud it is just because he was very weak in English
but later he became MA English graduate. In his life there was a massive loss that is nothing but
his father who sacrificed his happiness. Many of the relatives of Deva were telling that Deva
would not study well, he could not get good marks and instead of studying let him go for any job
to live at least an average life style but Deva did not lose his hope and pushed himself for the
enhancement. Eventually he would have confident to achieve something in his life that might be
huge or small. Through this short story it is understood that anything may happen at any time we
should not lose our hope. In everyone’s life all the ups and downs will be coming it is our
responsibilities to overcome everything and we should learn lesson from other’s life. Each one
has different opinion about life everything will be alright when the right time comes to you
always hope for the best. These are the things that are explored in the short story by Deva. God
had created everyone in the world for some purpose we need to wait for the turn and be patient.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS:

What you want may not happen but what you need will definitely happen.
