Directions: Guess the word by arranging the jumbled letters.
Y V L O E I T C
The teacher will ask: What is velocity?
EXPLORE
The teacher will present the lesson for the day using a video presentation.
Velocity is a vector quantity. It is the rate at which the position changes.
Velocity is a speed in each direction. It is a vector quantity which is known as the displacement in a given interval.
Formula: Velocity = displacement/time
Velocity = final position – initial time / time

Direction: Calculate the average velocity of the runner.

1. What is the average velocity of the runner? (U)

2. In what direction does the runner’s final position? (U)
3. How did you calculate the average velocity of the runner? (M)
4. How do speed differ from velocity? (R)
EXPLAIN (UMR HERE)
1. What is the average velocity of the runner? (U)
8.33 m/s, East
2. In what direction does the runner’s final position? (U)
East
3. How did you calculate the average velocity of the runner? (M)
In getting the average velocity of an object, the given must be listed first. Look for the initial position, final position, and time
in the given problem. Write the formula, then substitute with the given. Subtract final position and initial position to get the
object’s displacement then divide with the given time. The velocity must have a unit same of speed and direction.
4. How does speed differ from velocity? (R)
Speed is a scalar quantity therefor it contains magnitude only while velocity is a vector quantity with magnitude and
direction.
ELABORATE
Directions: Calculate the velocity.
Problem 1:
An athlete runs 400 meters, North in 50 seconds. Calculate the velocity of the athlete.
8 m/s North
Problem 2:
A car travels from 40 kilometers West from home to town then changes its direction to North, 70 kilometers away from town in 2
hours. Determine the average velocity of the car during the journey.
15km/hr, North

What is the formula for velocity?

Why velocity is a vector quantity?
Why do we need to get the displacement of the object before calculating the average velocity?
EVALUATE
I. Multiple Choice
Directions: Read and understand every item. Choose the best answer then write only the letter of your choice in your answer sheet.

2. A car travels 30 kilometers West in 5 hours. What is its average velocity?
A. 5 km/h West B. 5 km/h C. 6 km/h D. 6 km/h West
3. Which of the following statements about speed is correct?
A. Velocity is a scalar quantity. B. Velocity is a vector quantity.
C. Speed and velocity are the same thing. D. Velocity has no direction.
4. What is the train’s average velocity if its position changes from 200 km East to 700 km South in 5 hours?
A. 100 km/h East B. 100 km/h South C. 100 km/h D. 1000 km/h
5. What is the primary difference between speed and velocity?
A. Speed is a scalar quantity, while velocity is a vector quantity.
B. Speed includes direction, while velocity does not.
C. Velocity is measured in kilometers per hour, while speed is measured in meters per second.
D. Speed refers to how fast an object is moving, while velocity refers to how far an object has traveled.

Recall: Call -Out (3 minutes)
Directions: The teacher will ask the following questions.

1. What is the difference between scalar and vector quantity?

2. What is distance and displacement?
3. How do speed differ from velocity?
EXPLORE
The teacher will present the lesson for the day using a video presentation.
The rate at which an object’s velocity changes is known as acceleration. It refers to how fast or how quickly an object changes its
velocity. It is a vector quantity. An object is accelerating when:
1. It is travelling in one direction with changing speed (either speeding up or slowing down).
2. Moving at a constant speed but changes its direction.
3. When it changes both the speed and its direction.

Direction: Calculate the acceleration of the car.

1. What is the acceleration of the car? (U)

2. Is acceleration a vector quantity? Why? (U)
3. Does the car in the diagram speeding up or slowing down? (M)
4. Does a car with constant speed but sudden changes in direction experience acceleration? (R)
5. Does a car maintain its speed and direction shows acceleration? (R)
EXPLAIN (UMR HERE)
1. What is the acceleration of the car? (U)
2
5 m/s East
2. Is acceleration a vector quantity? Why? (U)
Yes, because acceleration both has magnitude and direction.
3. Does the car in the diagram speeding up or slowing down? (M)
The car in the diagram is speeding up because the speed is increasing from 0m/s to 25m/s.
4. Does a car with constant speed but sudden changes in direction experience acceleration? (R)
Yes, because an object is accelerating when an object changes its speed or direction.
5. Does a car maintain its speed and direction shows acceleration? (R)
No, because the car has zero acceleration, and it does not show any change of speed nor direction.
ELABORATE
Directions: Calculate the acceleration.
1. A car accelerates from rest to 24km/hr in 6hr. What is its acceleration?
2
4 km/hr
2. A boy is running 4m/s. After 2s, he runs at a velocity of 2m/s. What is the acceleration of the boy?
2
−1 m/s

What is the formula for acceleration?

How do we calculate the acceleration of an object?
What does negative acceleration implies?
