LESSON PLAN on FUNCTIONS OF COMMUNICATION

Topic Functions of Communication with Integration of Technology-Based


Activities
Learning Competency At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. Discuss the functions of communication
b. Respond to an effective communication considering gender
roles in home and society
c. Use appropriate media or platform in communication
Key Understanding to be Effective communication is when one understands and is able to
developed respond appropriately to different situations with consideration on
gender roles and the available medium of communication.
Year Level Grade 11 Senior High School
Materials Need Powerpoint presentation of the lesson, pictures of various
communication situation, cellphones or computers
Resources
Duration of the Session 2 days (1 hour each)
Introductory Activity Show a picture of a family and ask the students:

a. What is the picture all about?


b. Do you think that effective communication can be
achieved if all members of the family respect gender
roles in home and even in society? Why?

Activity Group the students into 5. Let them pick one picture and
explain how communication is being used in the picture.
This will lead them to the function of communication.

After the students’ presentation, the teacher processes the


activity leading to the understanding of the functions of
communication.
Analysis Post the function of communication on the board and ask
each group to match their picture to the function of
communication. Ask the questions:
a. What is the context of communication presented in
the picture?
b. How do gender roles in home or in society affect
functions of communication?

Abstraction/Generalization Ask the students to discuss the five functions of


communication. (The teacher should see to it that both
genders are represented fairly.)
Application Respond to an effective communication considering gender
roles in home and society through a role-play with the use
of appropriate medium of communication.
1. The manager talks about the company policy to new
employees.
2. An OFW talking to her family.
3. A teenager motivates the old ones.
4. Class president shares about the plans for the
intramurals.
5. There is an acquaintance party in school wherein
students are coming from different places.
Concluding Activity Discuss or explain the function of communication in the
following scenario.
1. Sarah Geronimo personally thanked her supporters.
2. The president presents his plans for 2024.
3. The husband and wife agreed to have shared
responsibilities at home.
4. The tourist guide orients the guest regarding the
rules while they are in the vicinity.
5. June meets April and they start talking about their
plans.
