SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN

QUARTER 4 MARCH 18 to 22, 2024
GRADE 8 (FAITH, HOPE, LOVE) MATH 8 – WEEK 2 – Day 1 to 5

I. OBJECTIVES
a. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate key concepts of linear inequalities in two variables, systems of linear inequalities in
two variables and linear functions.
b. Performance Standard
The learners are able to formulate and solve accurately real-life problems involving linear inequalities in two
variables, systems of linear inequalities in two variables, and linear functions.
c. Competencies
(M8AL-IIc-1): The learners illustrate a relation and a function.
(M8AL-IIc-2): The learners verify if a given relation, is a function.
d. Values Integration: Excellence at the Service of Others
The learners are expected to be compassionate in creating an environment where vulnerability can be
expressed and valued. (Elaborate)
e. Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. illustrate a relation and a function;
2. adopt the importance of knowing the concept of relation and a function in embracing vulnerability as
a pathway to meaningful relationships and personal growth; and
3. verify if a given relation, is a function.
II. CONTENT
 RELATIONS AND FUNCTIONS
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

b. Technology Integration & Materials
 Illustrations through projections, graphing paper, video, and activity notebook
IV. PROCEDURES Teacher’s Notes
a. Engage
Activity 1: “Wow Caraga!” Let the students recall the previous lesson about locating
points in a cartesian place.

Prompt Question:
1. How did you find the activity?
2. Have you encountered any difficulty in doing the
activity? If yes, what is it?

Presentation of the Topic and Learning The students can now conclude that the topic is about
Outcomes Relation and a Function. Let the students be guided with the
learning outcomes:
LEARNING OUTCOMES
a. illustrate a relation and a function.
b. adopt the importance of knowing the concept
of relation and a function in embracing
vulnerability as a pathway to meaningful
relationships and personal growth.
c. verify if a given relation, is a function.

b. Explore
Activity 2: “Let’s Connect!” Let the students connect each quantity in Set A to the
corresponding quantity in Set B. And answer the questions
that follow.

Guide questions:
1. How is the cost related to the number of trays?
2. How many quantities in A relate to each quantity in
B?
3. How the quantities in Set A are related to the
quantities in B?
4. How many quantities in A relate to each quantity in
B?
5. How do you relate the elements in the two sets?
c. Explain
Giving Examples Let the students consider the given examples to do the
activities that will be given to them.

Board Work/Individual Activity Let the students answer the examples given on the board or
on their seats.

Introducing Relation and a Function Let the students illustrate relation.

 Representations of Relations Let the students identify the different ways in representing a
relation (table, ordered pairs, graph, and equation.)

 Relations that are Functions Let the students illustrate a function.

Activity 3: “Let’s Verify” Let the students determine verify the following graphs if it is
a function or a mere relation, and then describe each graph.

Prompt Question:
1. At how many point/s will the vertical line intersect
the graph in A? B? C? D?
2. How did you determine that the graph represent a
function? a mere relation?
3. Which of the graphs are functions?
4. Which of the graphs are just a relation?
d. Elaborate
Video Analysis: “The Power of Vulnerability” Let the students watch a short video clip and connect their
learnings in their day – to – day life or to their personal
experiences.

Prompt questions:
1. What is vulnerability, and why is it often seen as a
negative or undesirable trait?
2. How does vulnerability relate to human connection
and relationships?
3. How can embracing vulnerability lead to personal
growth, authenticity, and a sense of belonging?
e. Evaluation
Activity 4: “Complete Me Up” Let the students have a short quiz about the topic discussed.

Part I. Determine whether it is a function or a mere relation.

Part II. Write the set of ordered pairs of each rule
V. ASSIGNMENT
Define Independent and Dependent variables
VI. REFLECTIONS/REMARKS
