 Health Related Fitness is theoretically defined as a multidimensional construct containing the
components cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and
body composition
 Physical activities are defined as bodily movements produced by the skeletal muscles that lead
to energy expenditure.

 Describes the role of physical activity assessments in managing one’s stress (PEH12FH-IIf-5)

II. Background Information for Learners


 Stress is an inevitable part of life. It’s impossible to eliminate, but you can learn to manage
stress, and most people usually do. When stress affects the brain, with its many nerve connections,
the rest of the body feels the impact as well. So it stands to reason that if your body feels better,
so does your mind. Taking part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can greatly improve
physical health. People who take part in park activities such as walking, hiking, or skiing, schedule
fewer office visits, maintain lower body fat percentages, and have lower blood pressure and
cholesterol levels.
 Outdoor recreation – organized activities done during one’s free time for his/her own personal
reasons, where an interaction between man and an element of nature is present. Done during
vacation or school break, You want to have fun and Done outdoors in nature. it includes the
natural environment and resources which comprises the land, water, wildlife, vegetation, open
space, and scenery.
 A day can be divided into 3 according to Clayne R. Jensen, 2006: the existence time,
subsistence time & free time.
 Outdoor – A space outside an enclosed area. It includes the natural environment and resources
which comprises the land, water, wildlife, vegetable, open space, and scenery.
 Recreation – (latin, recreare, refreshed)
 People engage in outdoor recreation activities for:
1. Personal satisfaction and enjoyment.
2. To be in touch with the nature.
3. For personal pursuits (e.g. photography, collecting sea shells, reaching a top of a mountain,
conquering rapids of river, attaining certain fitness level)
4. Outdoor or environmental education
 Note: how one decides to spend free time varies from person to person. What makes one happy
may not be so for others. It will depend on one’s interest, pursuits, and needs w/c may be
reflective of one’s belief and level of gratification.
