6
RECAP

From the previous lesson, you have learned about the basic research
procedures. Being enlightened with the steps on how to start and form your
research writing will lead you to a better position in understanding the next topic.

LESSON

Writing a research report requires more than gathering data. It

takes careful steps in analyzing the information that a researcher
has collected to add relevance and value to his work. Under this idea,
forming a well-constructed analysis from the acquired results or data
plays a critical importance to the success of such output.

After the actual data gathering, presenting the collected

information in a systematic and clear way is necessary. The usage of
appropriate graphs in showing your data is the best tool to utilize.

For instance,

TITLE: A RESEARCH REPORT ON HOW THE SELECTED GRADE 10

STUDENTS OF PINAGBUHATAN HIGH SCHOOL COPE WITH STRESS
DURING QUARANTINE PERIOD

PRESENTATION & ANALYSIS OF DATA

[This figure contains gathered information from 500 respondents]

Figures 1 presented above is translated information into bar graphs so

that reading or identifying its content and purpose will be precise and
easy to be recognized or understood.

7
Figure 1 shows the classification of respondents according to their
gender. Data tells us that there were 300 males (60%) and 200 (40%)
females. It means that majority of the respondents were male.

To analyze means to break a topic or concept down into its parts in

order to inspect and understand it, and to restructure those parts in a
way that make sense to you. In an analytical research paper, you do
research to become an expert on a topic so that you can restructure
and present the parts of the topic from your own perspective.

The explanation or description of the graph should be shortly and

precisely written below it.

In the concept of injecting an analysis in a research report, here are

few of the fundamentals:
• Discuss the strong and weak points
• Discuss the effect or impact
What about the results? How should results be written?
• Show the most relevant information in graphs, figures, and
tables
• Include data that may be in the form of pictures, artifacts,
notes, and interviews
• Present results with a short discussion explaining them at
the end.

GUIDED PRACTICE:

Let us analyze these:

A)

(Figure 2 contains the data regarding the location of these respondents during the pandemic period. )

8
1. Which variable is greater?
2. What is the value of the other variable?
3. What do these figures tell us?

Answers:
1. Pasig
2. 100.
3. It turned out that 400 (80%) of them remained in Pasig while 100
(20%) of them were outside Pasig area.

B.)

Figure 3 presents the results derived from the survey questionnaire. The indicated
question was ‘’How do you cope with stress during this quarantine period?”
36% of the respondents said that they spend time playing online/mobile games. This
item got the highest percentage value. On the other hand, 15% of these respondents
said that they spend time reading and the other 15% said they avoid watching
unpleasant news. The mentioned items happened to be the lowest among the choices
in terms of percentage.

Figure 3 presents the main content of the research which deals with the
items from the questionnaire about the things that the respondents do to
cope with stress during the pandemic period.

1. Among the choices, which one got the highest percentage and which one
got the lowest percentage?
2. How do these results appeal to you? What comes to your mind?
3. Why do you think online/mobile games help young people to manage
their stress?
4. What about for the items which earned the lowest percentile value?
What are your thoughts?
Answers:

1. 180 of the respondents said that they spend their time playing
online/mobile games to cope with stress while 15 of them answered
that they read and the other 15 avoid watching unpleasant news.

9
2. You may come up with the idea that most of the young people would
prefer to divert their time in playing online/mobile games rather than
to read or to watch news to cope with stress.
3. This kind of activity allows them to significantly focus their time and
divert their attention to temporarily forget whatever causes them
stressful feelings. Online/mobile games also enable the respondents
to be someone else because of their character role playing nature,
making them detached for a while from themselves.
4. These items reveal that the respondents are lesser interested in
reading and in watching news. These formulated ideas about the
result of the research are what we call analysis from which you can
categorically write below a figure or graph and in a separate
paragraph after each figure was shown.

The graph shows data about the age bracket and group of people who are
more exposed in stress. Analyze the graph. Using your pen and paper, draw
a star if the item is correct and draw a circle if the item is wrong.

1. People aging 51-60 are lesser stressed than those aging from 0-10.
2. People aging 11-20 are more stressed than those aging from 41-50.

10
3. People aging from 31-40 are the most exposed ones from stress.
4. People aging from 21-30 are the next highly exposed to stress.
5. People have tendency to be exposed in stress regardless of their age.

Activity 2

Study the graph and answer the following questions. Write your answer on the
provided space before the number.

_____1. What is the graph about?

A. problems caused by traffic
B. problems caused by stress
C. problems caused by pandemic
D. problems caused by poverty
_____2. What have you noticed with the items inside the pie graph?
A. The items represent different problems.
B. The items represent different theories.
C. The items represent different solutions.
D. The items represent different concepts.

_____3. Why does the pie graph have different colored components?
A. To make the components attractive.
B. To make the components meaningful.
C. To make the components comprehensive.
D. To make the components simple.

11
______4. Based from the content of the graph, which one is NOT TRUE?

A. Stress brought pain and skin condition among the respondents.

B. Depression and anxiety served as the most significant problem caused
by stress among the respondents.
C. Sleep problem turned out to be not included among the components.
D. Skin conditions are also triggered by stress.

______5. What should be the appropriate analysis for the graph?

A. The graph shows that 30.30% of the respondents felt depression and
anxiety from being stressed. Such effect also got the highest value
among the components in terms of percentage. On the other hand,
respondents said that the least effect of stress to them was skin
condition which only got 10.10% and the lowest among the
components.
B. The graph shows that the components were distinguished according
to color and percentage. In this way, the problems caused by stress
can be easily recognized.
C. The graph shows that 25.25% of the respondents experienced
digestive problem and that other components remained to be
insignificant in terms of value or percentage.
D. The graph shows that the researcher presented possible solutions in
order for the respondents to cope with stress.

Activity 3
Using your pen and paper, form 3 analyses from the given graph.
