REFLECTION PAPER
Attending the class was a great learning opportunity for me as it
provided me valuable insights about what a server is. Ma’am Lysa Quiroz, our
teacher for the subject Operating System, brought us to a special place in Bipsu
where the server is located. It is a special moment because we got the
opportunity to see the server physically. Dr. Loudie B. Suliva, the person in
charge for teaching us provided free discussions on questions and answers as
well for effective teamwork making the learning process interesting.
While listening the discussion, I’ve learned a lot of knowledge about the
server. Sir Suliva first explained the server physically. He told us there is a
firewall installed on the server called SOPHOS firewall. This firewall blocks the
unnecessary website that students will access when connecting to the internet.
He also told us the purpose of each connected cable that was seen in the
server. The cables have different colors and some have numberings. He
informed us that it was done in purpose to avoid confusion. Also, the server has
an enormous amount of price which costed millions.
Sir Suliva also shares their plan to upgrade their service. They want to
increase the speed of internet connection by increasing the bandwidth. They
have two internet providers, Globe and Starlink. The advantage of that is if one
provider has some issues or no signal, the other internet provider can fill over.
It was done to avoid internet loss.
In conclusion, I’ve learned that the server is vitally important in school
setting as it manage and secures the data. It also serves as the storage of data.
This lecture was a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge about the
importance of server. The interactive learning environment also helps us by
making the lecture fun yet informative.
