Figure 4 Voltage output capacitor filter
Main function of a half wave rectifier is to change AC to DC. But this rectification does not include
constant, and it varies with the time. By applying a capacitor parallel to the load, we can observe
somewhat a smooth DC. This can be named as a capacitor filter half wave rectifier. Capacitors give
high resistive lane to DC components and low resistive lane to AC components. When the capacitor
conduction time capacitor gets charged to its highest value to the voltage supply and discharge when
the AC input changes its direction to negative cycle. When AC input at its negative half cycle the
diode act as reverse biased diode and it won’t let pass a current though itself. Then the capacitor
starts to discharge the stored voltage through the load resistance. Because of this reason we can
observe a wave form as above mentioned.

Figure 6 Voltage output capacitor and inductor filter
In the previous scenario we have checked the output voltage of a halfwave rectifier circuit with
capacitor filter. And we were able to see a somewhat near to DC a constant voltage but with small
fluctuations. In this case we are using an inductor which does more smoothing on DC rectified
voltage. This kind of a voltage rectification happens because of the inductor we are using here.
𝑑𝑙
Inductor does not like to change the current flow through it. Voltage of an inductor is given by 𝐿 so
𝑑𝑡
there is no sudden change of current through the inductor. Although there are components like diodes
inductor will not allow to change the voltage. Because of that we can see a more smoothen voltage
through the oscilloscope. Having an inductor in the rectifier circuit gives more accurate, more
smoothen output.
One of the biggest differences after having a inductor is we can note that the voltage takes some time
to stable. At the beginning of the simulation voltage goes to a high level and decrement with the time
and stabilized. Below figure shows that the voltage become stable.

In the full-wave rectification circuit, positive half of the cycle D2 and D3 diodes are forward biased
and current flows through the circuit. Capacitor gets charged during the process. Capacitor charged to
its highest value during the first quarter waveform of the positive half cycle. And the AC voltage and
capacitor charge voltage both become same. Then the AC voltage begin to drop. During the dropping
the capacitor begins to discharge gradually.
In the negative half cycle rest of the diodes become forward biased and previous diodes become
reverse biased. Again the capacitor charge to its highest voltage and both AC voltage and capacitor
charged voltage become same. When the AC starts to decrease voltage, capacitor discharges
gradually. Difference between half-wave rectifier with capacitor filter and full-wave rectifier with
capacitor filter is full wave rectifier gives more smoothen voltage with capacitor filter. Because the
capacitor discharging time is smaller than the half-wave rectifier. In full-wave rectifier capacitor
continuously supply the voltage to make the output voltage smoother.

As in the half-wave rectifier with capacitor and inductor filters same thing happens in the full-wave
rectifier. But in Full-wave rectifier we can see the voltage wave has become smoother than the
halfwave rectifier. We were able to see a somewhat near to DC a constant voltage but with small
fluctuations. In this case we are using an inductor which does more smoothing on DC rectified
voltage. This kind of a voltage rectification happens because of the inductor we are using here.

there is no sudden change of current through the inductor. Although there are components like diodes

through the oscilloscope. Having an inductor in the rectifier circuit gives more accurate, more
