Earthquake drill was conducted on March 25, 2024 at around 9 A.M. in the afternoon at Simanta
Elementary School.
Conducting a school based earthquake drill is the key strategy that has been helping the school as
well as the community to be in a state of awareness and readiness and to be able to reduce undesirable
outcomes when disasters occur.
But before we conducted the drill, The School DRRM Coordinator gave lectures prior to the said
activity which includes the following: how to respond to the alarm that will be used during an earthquake
drill, the do’s and don’ts while the alarm or shaking is going on and until it stops, introduced routes or
evacuation plan going to the evacuation area as well as assigning leaders in each grade level. Since the
school conducting earthquake drill every year, some of them are familiar now to the said activity.
During the drill, we set a minute indicated the earthquake or shaking. As soon as they heard the
alarm, the performed the “Duck, Cover and Hold”. All of them hide under their tables and some of them
used their books, bags and hands to cover and protect their heads from any objects that may fall. When the
1 minute alarm or the shaking has stopped, the students evacuated the school immediately with the things
they used as protection. When they were in the evacuation area they still put their things and hands on top
of their heads. They group themselves according to their grade level. As soon as the students arrived at the
designated evacuation, the assigned leader in each level do the heads counts.
Moreover, all the students participated the drill and they did not encounter any untoward incidents.
That shows that the teachers explained well and It shows that they are prepared enough to this kind of
calamity.
