EARTHQUAKE DRILL 2024

1ST QUARTER
(MARCH 27, 2024)

Earthquake is one of the disastrous calamities that caused many fatalities and injuries. It cannot be
detected when and where it would happen. It is understood by being a natural phenomenon caused by the
constant movements of the earth’s crustal plates and due to climate change.
On March 27, 2024 Curuan Central school and SPED Center conducted the 1 ST quarter simultaneous
School-Based Earthquake Drill pursuant to the Division Memorandum order No. 0211 series 2022.
The drill started with the tapping of the bell where the pupils from kindergarten to grade six together
with their teachers and followed strictly the three important things during an earthquake. These were the
Ducking, Covering, Holding, watching out for falling objects and keeping calm and avoiding panic. Before the
actual drills, Ms. Erica Liza Caloyloy, school DRRMC coordinator conducted an orientation during the flag
ceremony. She disseminated information about the occurrence of earthquake as well as the needs to carry out
a drill to enhance pupils’ awareness on the safety of the measures before, during and after the earthquake.
The drill participants were participated by 1335 learners and 45 school personnel. The drill lasted for
15 minutes. No untoward incident happened during the drill.
Finally, it was indeed a success. Preparedness and mitigation are key strategies in reducing disaster
risk.
