Narrative Report on Simultaneous School-Based

Earthquake Drill 2019
In line with the campaign of the Department of Education (DepEd) in equipping the school

children with the knowledge, proper attitude and skills on what to do in case of a natural and man-

made disasters like earthquake and fire, Bahay Elementary School conducted quarterly earthquake

drill in the school campus last February 21, 2019 in the school campus at exactly 2:00 o’clock in

the afternoon. The drill was carried out simultaneously and smoothly. All grade levels occupied

the designated area for them based on the school evacuation plan.

On February 21, 2019, a loud sound of bell blurted for one minute as a signal that

an earthquake is currently happening. Everybody in their respective classrooms ducked, covered

and held themselves under their armchairs and tables. After that, the teachers led their advisory

classes in heading to their designated evacuation areas.

They were grouped together according to the class where they belong. Then, all classroom

teachers did a headcount to make sure that all pupils are accounted for. The school DRRM

coordinator announced the termination of the drill.

In summary, the drill was successfully implemented and nobody was injured because the

routines were systematic and everybody was cooperative during the activity.

The pupils efficaciously headed to their designated evacuation area based on the
school evacuation plan. Then, the teacher head counted the pupils and made sure
that nobody is missing or injured.
 The pupils successfully simulated “Duck, Cover and Hold” as a safety measure to
prevent injuries from falling debris during an earthquake. They alertly covered their
heads and body under their chairs as they heard the 60-second ringing of the alarm
bell.
