Date : March 9, 2023
Venue : Paku National High School
Participants : Grade 7 to Grade 12 students and 34 teaching and non-teaching
personnels
I. Introduction

Earthquake is a vibration of sudden undulation of portion of the earth’s crust,

caused by splitting of faulting a mass of rock or by volcanic and other disturbances. It
is an unpredictable event in nature and most destructive of all natural occurrences. That
is why it can cause death of thousands of people.
To minimize the threatening event, we should prepare by doing precautionary
measures. Schools that house hundredths of students each day should undertake regular
earthquake drills. This will make both the students and staffs familiarize the procedures
on how to survive an earthquake. It will also help them to recognize the high risk and
safety areas of the school.
By doing the earth quake drill, they will be more prepared for the strike of such
calamity and loss of life will lessen.

II. Activities
The Paku National High School students and staffs conducted an earthquake
drill last March 9, 2023 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon. It started with an alarm phase
by ringing of the school bill. The second was the response phase, students dock, hold
and cover under the tables and chairs. The third was the evacuation phase, the students
walk slowly outside the room, covering their heads and evacuated to the safe area away
from the building, trees and even poles. The teachers were the last to evacuate from the
rooms. This safe area was the assembly point; the evacuees must be grouped in order
by class. And the fourth the was the head count phase or roll call phase to determine if
students were intact and nobody was missing. After the drill, the principal gave rating
to the performance of the students during the conduct of the drill. Afterwards, the post
activity-exercise tabletop and functional exercise was conducted led by the MapEh
teachers.

IV. Observations/problems met during the conduct of Q1 NSED

1. Some of the students do not perform the earthquake drill seriously.
2. Lack of medicines, tools and equipment to be used in case of disaster.

V. Suggested Recommendations:
1. Teachers should monitor those students who are just making foolishness
during the drill.
2. Students should be informed that they will be given punishment if they
will not perform the drill well. Additional points will be given to those
students who perform better.
3. There should be enough medicine and tools and equipment to be used if
there is an actual earthquake.
4. There should be a yearly demo from the higher authorities.
