Do You Prefer Eating Out to Eating at Home?

Nowadays, some people like to eat at home and prepare food by themselves but others prefer to eat
outside in restaurants or at food stands. As far as I am concerned, I prefer to eat at home. Of course,
there are some advantages eating out. Firstly, restaurants offer a more comfortable environment to
eat and the food there tastes more delicious than home-cooked meals. Everyone has different
favorite dishes and restaurants may satisfy all tastes of its customers. In addition, eating at
restaurants is a good way of getting together with friends. People go to restaurants so that they have
a private space to discuss something. Many people think that it is easier to do a business when they
eat and negotiate at the same time. They do not need to worry about washing dishes and clearing.
For people who are busy to cook, eating out is certainly an ideal choice. Furthermore, for people do
not know how to cook and do not have someone to cook for them, eat out seems to be the only
choice.

However, many other people prefer to eat at home. This is because eating at home is much cheaper
than eating at restaurants. Instead of spending money for expensive meals at a restaurant, people
can prepare for a meal and save lots of money for other purposes, so that they do not want to go
restaurants for lunch or dinner. Other people choose to eat at home just because they would like to
spend time with their families. While having dinner at home, for example, they can share their
happiness and troubles in jobs with their folks or even talk about a television program they like best. I
think that whether people eat at a restaurant or at home, the most important thing is whether they feel
comfortable or not.

However, if I have to choose, I will eat at home because it is a way to save my money and above all, I
can have a good time with my family. The main reason is that at home family members can prepare
their meals and enjoying their food together, which can enhance their relationships. Family members
can talk, make jokes and exchange feelings on current affairs with each other while preparing a meal.

Parents have a chance to communicate with their kids and keep track of what they are thinking and
doing; while children can learn to help with some household tasks and develop intimacy with their
parents. Imagine that you and your brothers and sisters help your mother to cook on weekend, and
enjoy the food later on, and you feel everything is so nice. General speaking, eating out side is
comfortable and convenient, but eating at home has more benefits. I prefer to eat at home.

Eating at home
In 1900, only 2 percent of meals were eaten outside the home. In 2010, 50 percent were eaten away
from home. Most family meals happen about three times a week. Nowadays, living in the 21st
century, people are busy. Most people are busy with work, school, sports, and other extra-curricular
activities. And along with being so busy, thus, a nearby restaurant usually becomes our dining-place. It
cannot be denied that eating out is a more convenient choice. However, eating out everyday can be
very expensive. Moreover, the restaurant food is unhealthy, because most of the food are fatty and
salty.

In addition, the most important thing is, as I have experienced, dining out is not as enjoyable as
having a nice home-cooked meal. Therefore, compared with eating in a restaurant, eating at home
will be a better choice. First of all, one of the most important fact is that homemade meal is less
expensive, which means eating at home is a very good method to save money. Sandy Dawes, a new
lawyer, and his husband, Chris, a Ph. D. candidate, used to dine out four times a week. Now they
usually eating out once a week, at most, because their budget have been squeezed by the rising
prices, student loan bills and car payments, etc.

Meat, vegetables and other ingredients from supermarkets or grocery stores are very affordable, and
the total cost of a homemade meal is much less than the cost of a meal at a restaurant. For instance,
dine at a moderately expensive restaurant, people usually end up spending about $20 to $30 for a
meal. In addition, this price is not included the tax and tips. The price people paid to the restaurant is
not only for the food, but also for the services provided. However, with the same amount of money,
three or four ordinary meals can be prepared at home actually.

According to a survey which made by Mintel International, a market research firm, since the economy
soured and the prices of food raised, Americans began to spend more time in their kitchen, to cook
the lunch and dinner for themselves. From this, it proved that eating at home is a way to save money.
Another reason of eating at home is that homemade food is healthier, and it may even enhance our
life. Although restaurants are offering more nutritious food options these days, the choices are often
limited.

Most foods that are served in restaurants contain high amounts of fat and calories, and even some
harmful seasoning, such as MSG, which can be detrimental to our health. However, if we prepare our
own food by ourselves, we can choose those low-fat and low-calorie and our favorite ingredients to
prepare our meals. There will be no any limitation when we are choosing what we want to eat.
Another disadvantage of dining out is that we cannot know exactly what we are eating. While we can
see the meats and vegetables that are used to prepare our meal, we may not know what ingredients
go into the sauces and seasoning.

Also, chefs can make mistakes, and they may accidentally add some things that they should not into
our food. This is especially important for those who are allergic to certain foods. Therefore,if we
prepare our own food at home, we know exactly what we are eating. Besides, the reason of why we
should eating at home is not only because of the healthier food, but the length of our life. According to
a research which was published in Public Health Nutrition, a Cambridge University journal by a
research team, made up of Taiwanese and Australian researchers, eating a home-cooked meal up to
five times a week could enhance our life.

In addition, according to the research, not only eating at home can live longer, the one who cooked at
home about five times a week were 47 percent more likely to still be alive after 10 years. Last but not
least, eating at home provides a very good chance to a family to sit together and have a nice
conversation. Family member can share their daily life on the dinner table, parents can know more
about the life of their children, such as how's their school life, or whether they have any difficulties on
anything or not, eating at home offers an excellent opportunity for family bonding. Moreover, Family
dinner can made children become healthier.

There was a survey found that those children who ate dinner with their families most frequently ate
more fruits and vegetables and less soda and fried foods. When younger kids frequently eat dinner
with their families, they are less likely to be overweight than other children. Besides, according to the
report of The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), it
shows that children who have regular meals with their parents do better in every way, from better
grades, to healthier relationships, to staying out of trouble, and they are less likely to smoke cigarettes
and marijuana or drink alcohol.

There is no any disadvantage to stay at home, make the home-cooked food at our sweet home with
our lovely family members. We can save more money, enjoy healthier and more nutritive food, have a
better life style, build a stronger bonds with our family members, our children will be healthier and
more clever. Everything will be good if we eating at home, so, eating at home is definitely a better
choice when there are two choice in front of us.

Eating Home and Eating Out

Thanks to eating at home families are able to save more money in the recession. Eating out on the
weekends and during the week makes families spend much more money than they expect. But
mostly some fast food restaurants have specials going on during the weekday. But many families are
starting to cook at home because of the cost of food at restaurants. The money that they are
spending at fast food restaurants they can be saves at the grocery store. Eating at home is much
cheaper and healthier than eating out at restaurants. When families are eating at home it puts the
cooker in control.

So they are able to know what kind of ingredients to put in their food. Instead of families going to a
restaurant and trying to figure out what they put in their food just in case they get sick. If the families
are eating at a restaurant like McDonald’s they do not know if their hamburger have hit the floor
before preparing. But they are probably praying that it has not. Have families ever glanced at what a
hamburger at a fast food restaurant is made with? There can be tons of ingredients, some with names
that people never heard of or cannot pronounce (Steendahl).

When parents cook at home, they can keep your foods natural and whole. By families eating at home
they have a lot more control. Families in America think that eating at home is healthier than eating at
restaurants. Some families go out to eat at restaurants they look at the way the restaurants looks are
make them feel while they are eating. Chefs and health inspectors agree that a clean bathroom is
usually an indicator of the rest of the restaurant and when visiting a restaurant for the first time it is the
first place you should visit (Lempert).

Conversely, overflowing trash, stopped up drains, lack of hot water or soap in washrooms indicate
that the restaurant is not paying attention to fundamental cleanliness practices. They look at the
waiters and the way they welcome their families to the restaurant. The waiters are there hygiene nice
and neat. Always remember that they are handling the food you are about to eat. When families are
at home they do not have to worry about who prepared their meal and were their hands clean when
they cooked it. When families are at home they automatically clean their kitchen once the family is
done.
Families now days are starting to eat healthier. Some families have become overweight because of
eating problems and not eating enough healthy foods. Restaurants have some healthy foods but not
a lot because when families go to restaurants they intend to get what they want. For instance, if
someone was on a diet and they go to a restaurant they are not going to look in see how many
calories are in the meal. They would just eat the meal because it was either good to them or their
favorite meal.

But if that person was at home they would try to make that dish as healthy as they could for their
family. More than 70 percent of consumers believe the food they eat at home is healthier than meals
consumed out, according to a national telephone survey of more than 1,000 U. S. shoppers
conducted for the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) and Prevention magazine (DeJohn). Some
restaurants have healthy foods McDonald’s has their Caesar, Southwest, and Ranch salads that
come with grilled or crispy chicken. They also have the fruit and walnut salads, parfaits, and apple
dippers that are healthy.

But some people do not look at the healthy side of the restaurant. They look at the negative.
Restaurants can be particularly challenging to anyone who wants to eat a healthy diet (Kathi).
Restaurant food is rich, fatty, salty, and often high in carbohydrates (Kathi). Also, restaurant portions
tend to be much bigger than you would serve yourself at home. Families in the world today think
about how to save more money than spending more money. Once families think about how much
they spend eating out they could have made the same meal at home for much cheaper.

When your mother have gone to McDonald’s and bought four Double Cheeseburger meals for $3. 18
a piece she has paid almost thirteen dollars for the family that day. She could have gone to the
grocery store and bought some hamburger meat, French fries, and sodas for fewer than fifteen
dollars. When you eat at a restaurant families like to be comfortable and feel welcome to be there. At
some restaurants families do not feel comfortable being at. For example, when a school has a
basketball game and everyone goes to McDonald’s afterwards.

No customer would want to come in there after some school children have came in the place. The
restaurant would be a mess. But if the family was eating at home after the games they could be more
comfortable because they would not have to worry about being in line and seeing the place a mess.
Also, when families go to a nice restaurant they have to put on their best clothes in order to go eat
and come back home. When you eat at home your children can eat with their pajamas on and be
comfortable. Some families have birthdays at fast- food restaurants especially McDonald’s, Chuck-E-
Cheese, and the bowling alley.

When your children receive birthday party invitations those are the types of restaurants people are
having their child parties. So by the time that parent buys all those children Happy Meals or pizza they
have spent almost sixty dollars plus cake and ice cream. If that parent would have just cooked at
home they would have saved a lot more money than going to different types of restaurants to eat.
There are a lot of benefits and thoughts that run through family head in order to save money.

Families think about if they save this money by eating at home they could maybe go on vacation.
Families have to think about a lot of stuff in order to eat at that particular restaurant or at home. If my
family eats here tonight will they be eating healthy and will any of my family break out because of any
ingredients they put into the food. Some people wonder if they eat out will they have enough gas
money to make it to work tomorrow. But it would depend what grocery store your mother shops in
because every grocery store be either lower or higher than the other stores.

So eating at home is much cheaper than going out to a restaurant just remember to think about the
good things that families could do if they would just stop eating out. Work Cited DeJOhn, Christopher,
