Blog Post #3 Questions:

Serena
a) What are your Capstone goals between now and May 1st? Be specific and give
details and how you plan to accomplish it. The more specific your goals, the better
the chances you will have of accomplishing them.
My goals from now between May 1st includes attaching the stars to the purple squares and stitching all
of the squares together. To accomplish sticking the stars onto the squares, I will use the crochet needle I
purchased at the beginning of my project then use the white yarn. With these two tools, I will try my
best to stitch the star onto the square and make sure that on the side without the star, there will be a
neat outline. To stitch the squares, I will follow a posted tutorial on YouTube that I have already picked
out so once I am ready, all I have to do is learn the proper steps.

b) Which specific elements of your project will you accomplish before the end of the
month? Create a checklist of things you want to finish over the next 2 weeks.
Before the end of this month, I will definitely be able to at least attach the stars onto the squares as I
only have two aspects of my project that need to be completed, one being the stars. As I have an
important test this upcoming Friday, I will not be able to do much until then but the following two days,
which is Saturday and Sunday, I plan to at least complete attaching all of the stars. From here, I hope to
complete stitching either one or two rows every day then connect them all together once I am
complete. I hope to have this major step accomplished by at least the 29nth so I have one day to finish
the slide show I have prepared.

c) What strategies will you implement to help you accomplish your goals and stay on
task? List the strategies you will use to keep yourself on track.
To keep myself on track, a strategy I will implement is having at least one check in every day so I am
mindful of my progress and what needs to be completed. Another strategy is finding the motivation to
complete my project which can look like going on common social media platforms to find inspiration.

d) Explain how well you have been doing at providing evidence of your progress and
learning during this time?
If you have been on top of posting your progress, what has helped you stay on
task?
If you haven’t been keeping up with your posts, why and more importantly
how will you rectify this?
Remember, you should be posting to your Evidence and Progress Page at least 2 - 3
times per week. If you haven't, then this is your chance to make that happen over
the next few weeks.
At the beginning of my project, I was not putting in as much effort into updating my evidence and
progress page because I was unsure of how many times per week that I was supposed to be updating it
and I thought I was only supposed to update this page with major updates. Once I knew what needed to
be done, I tried my best to update this page with as much information as possible. To help me stay on
task, which was keeping me on top of posting my progress, I tried to think of what would be useful for
me in the future if I needed to look back during this moment. Although major components of my project
needed to be included, I thought that smaller milestones would also be useful. With this in mind, I was
able to find more parts of my project to post and this led to me being able to update my evidence and
progress page.
e) Post 5 photos of your progress to date, showing your work from the beginning
and your progress to date. Paste them in chronological order and provide a one or
two sentence explanation of what the photo represents.
1. Before I could start crocheting, I needed to buy most of my supplies. This included a crochet hook,
crochet needle, and three packs of yarn which led to a total of around $20. Although, this picture was
taken very recently as I forgot to take a picture when I first bought my supplies. So originally, the three
packs of yarn that I bought were one white, blue, and purple then later on, I ran out of the white and
blue then had to buy more to continue on with my project.

2. After watching a few tutorials, I was able to find one that worked the best for me. First, I was able to
practice using some scrap yarn I previously had while I was knitting. Once I felt comfortable in my ability
to crochet, I used the new yarn to crochet the granny squares. Even though there are nine squares, the
final blanket has eight squares in the rows and ten columns, resulting in it to me eight by ten squares to
have eighty squares.
3. Taking over a month to complete, I was finally able to finish crocheting all the granny squares. While
crocheting the squares, I knew I wanted a checkered pattern of blue and white but wanted to integrate
the purple into it. For the main component of the quilt, it would be blue and white squares while eight
squares in the middle would be purple with white stars.
4. After trying to find a tutorial on how to crochet a star to attach to the purple squares, all the tutorials
I saw did not meet my standards. Then I thought that a heart would also look nice, I looked for a tutorial
and followed it using my scrap yarn to practice.

5. A few days after I made the practice heart granny square, I started following the tutorial with the
actual yarn but found the result to be the same and not what I had expected. From here, I went back to
my original plan which was crocheting a star to attach to the purple squares. After looking for more
tutorials on YouTube, I finally found one that was relatively easy to follow and met my expectations.
Once I followed the tutorial, I made a star that I was happy with then immediately started crocheting the
rest.
