Extraction and cleaning

Steps made in a biomass collection:

1- Extraction — adapted backhoe

2- Precrushing — No machinery for this biomass— arid crushers

In some cases— factory treated from the beginning

Normally, customers of this biomass give secondary treatments to the wood.

Forest chips harvesting methods
● Terrain chipping
● Chipping at a landing
● Chipping at the plant
● Terminal chipping

- Bush packed and factory chipped

is the most appropriate approach
for large quantities of biomass and
long distances.
Treatment stages
1 Homogenization: - Splintering, grinding

2 Moisture control: - Natural and forced drying

3 Density increasement: - Briquettes and pellets

Treatments for particle size homogenization
Homogenizing Crush to have the same size, smaller combustion, more
efficiency.

● Splintering: Felling small trees with a multifunction head.

● Grinding: Grind the material to achieve greater homogeneity and smaller particle size.
Treatments for moisture control
● Natural drying: (Normally the one that is used).

Advantages: No costs

Disadvantages: Humidity decreases a maximum of 20%. (12-15% normally).

● Forced drying: Two types: - Direct dryers

- Indirect dryers

Advantages: Humidity decreases a lot more

Disadvantages: Too expensive.

Treatments for increasing the density
● Always from splintering, then can be densified.
Reasons to opt for pellets and briquettes as fuel:
● A renewable energy source
● Help stop global warming
● Avoid energy dependence
● Better for nature

Obtained products and uses
Chemical reaction
Combustion
Chemical process in which a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen in excess. The original
substance is called the fuel and the source of oxygen is called oxidizer.

CHEMICAL REACTION
Gasification
Gasification is a process that converts biomass materials into gases with a small or any
amount of oxygen.
Pyrolisis
Pyrolysis is the decomposition with no oxygen off biomass using heat. The proportion off each product
depends on the type of biomass, the heat inside the reactor and the speed with which heat is added to the
biomass (fast pyrolysis 400-500(°C),slow pyrolysis 400-650(°C)…)

Boiler
Storage Room
LOCATION:
- Beside the boiler room
and connected to it
through the feeding
system

CONDITIONS:
- Dry storage
- No exposed pipes
- Lockable door
- Fire doors
Distric Heating
- Is a system for distributing heat to
buildings through a system of
insulated pipes
