Lesson Plan

Name of the Teacher : ANGELVEB ASIÑERO

Learning Area : Science 9
Quarter : Third Quarter
Date of Implementation : February 20, 2024

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 1-hour lesson, the students shall be able to:
1. Identify the different types of magma;
2. Explain how the property of magma influenced volcanic eruptions through a
quick lab activity;
3. Realize the outburst of anger can change one’s face value, just as volcanic
eruption can change the face of the Earth.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic : Volcanoes and the Interior of the Earth: Types of Magma
Strategy : Lab Activities and Collaborative Learning
Reference : Science in Today’s World: Second Edition
: MELCS
Materials : book, bread, condensed milk, evaporated milk, worksheets
Values Integration: Realize the outburst of anger can change one’s face value, just
as volcanic eruption can change the face of the Earth

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Review

B. Engage
Activity 1: Who are you?
a. The students will be asked the following questions:
i. Who are you in the family? In your friends? In the school?
ii. How do change inside and outside of your homes?
iii. How do you behave in front of different people?

C. Explore
Activity 2: Viscosity Check!
 The students will do a quick lab activity using the attached worksheet.
 They will also answer the guide questions provided in the worksheet.

D. Explain
The following concepts will be explained and discussed.
1. Magma
2. Types of Magma
a. Basaltic
b. Andesitic
c. Granitic
E. Elaborate
The concepts of the properties of magma will be elaborated using the table
below.
PROPERTIES OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MAGMA

PROPERTY BASALTIC ANDESITIC GRANITIC

Least Most
Silica content Least (50%)
(50%) (70%)
Viscosity Least Intermediate most

Tendency to form lava Highest Intermediate Least

Tendency to form pyroclastic

F. Evaluate
The students will answer the given quick quiz worksheet. See attached
worksheet.

IV. ASSIGNMENT
The students will be tasked to research the different types of volcanoes and
volcanic eruption.

VISCOSITY
Quick Lab
Materials:
 Plate  Condensed milk
 Bread  Evaporated milk

Procedure:
1. Pour evaporated milk over a pandesal/bread placed on a plate.
2. Observe how the milk flows.
3. Place another pandesap/bread on a plate. Pour condensed milk over the pandesal/bread.
4. Compare the way the evaporated milk and the condensed milk flowed.
5. Compare the distance covered by the evaporated milk with that covered by the
condensed milk in equal units of time.

Observation: Write your observations here.

Guide questions:
1. Which is more viscous, evaporated milk or condensed milk? Explain your answer.

2. Which flows more easily over the pandesal/bread?

Conclusion: Write your conclusion here.
