METHOD STATEMENT FOR BRIDGE FINISHING WORK 1

1. SCOPE & OBJECTIVES

This Method statement details the procedure for the repairing and touchup works of minor
bridges & HPC Culverts of Dhamra Railway Doubling project.

2. MANPOWER REQUIRMENTS

 Supervisor
 Charge hands for Grinding
 Chipper, mason, Helpers as per site requirement

3. MATERIAL REQUIRMENTS
 Fosroc Nitobond SBR
 Asian/Berger/Birla waterproof putty (Exterior)
 OPC 53 Cement
 Fine Sand (Zone-III & IV)

4. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT

 Honda DG
 Dewatering Pump
 AG7 grinder & AG4 Grinders
 Painting brush/Roller
 Putty plates (Putty Patti)
 Small mason trowel
 Chisel & Hammer
 Wire brush & Cotton cloth
 Iron Pan

5. PROCEDURE / METHOD TO BE EMPLOYED

 Proper staging shall be done using cup-lock system at height work.


 Small plywood shutters pieces shall be removed. Any depression more than 10mm shall be
hacked and repaired with 1:1 rich mortars with fine sand to match with original level.
 Bulging more than 15mm shall be manually chipped, grinded and finish with paste [2 part
waterproof putty + 2 part OPC 53 + (1 part water + 1 part Nitobond SBR)] to match
with original level.
 Shutter joints at ceiling portion to be grinded and if required apply the paste for matching.
 Slush to be removed from pipes as well as box rafts.
 Slope of wing wall shall be made proper when required. It should be looks smooth without
any undulation.
 All the construction joints & any bulged portion shall be grinded using AG7 grinder. AG4
Grinder shall only be used at ceiling portion.
 The entire grinded surface shall be washed properly with clean water. No Muddy water is
allowed at site.
 Cement paste [2 part waterproof putty + 2 part OPC 53 + (1 part water + 1 part
Nitobond SBR)] shall be prepared by volume.
 On the grinded & saturated surface, the above paste shall be applied like putty using putty
plates to make the surface smooth.
 In this process all the rough surfaces, bug holes, minor honeycomb, slurry leakage portion
shall be repaired.
METHOD STATEMENT FOR BRIDGE FINISHING WORK 2

 Curing shall be done on repairing area for 3days. After curing, surface shall be smoothened
by grinding with GC-120 wheel & AG4 grinders.
 The same shall be get checked by client representative and after confirmation, 2 coats white
wash will be applied using Berger/Asian/Birla base distemper mixed water.
 The final bridge shall be checked by client representative and RFI will be certified.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

Site Engineer/Site Supervisor-

 Find out the scope of repairing at any bridges and arrange a pre-visit inspection with
client and discuss about the repairing method.
 Ensure the effective works are carried out according to SOP and all the equipment
required to execute the works are available as per the methodology.
 Ensure the proper mixing of paste with Nitobond SBR.
 Co-ordinate with the client for the ongoing repairing/stage checking if any
 After completion of repairing the RFI closing from client.
