Career Exploration Day Narrative Report

January 19, 2024

Pursuant to the Deped Memorandum No. 139 series of 2019, entitled


Career Guidance Week Celebration wherein this program aims to strengthen students
to pursue the career they want, emphasizing that choosing a career should not be
influenced by anyone but it should be a result of one’s decision. In connection with this,
Calatrava National High School conducted a Career Exploration Day on January 19,
2024 with the theme: “Paggabay sa Karera: Unang Hakbang Tungo sa Matatag na
KInabukasan.”
The parade began at 7:00 in the morning from Calatrava Covered
Court to Gawad Kalinga Covered Court. Students wore a variety of outfits depicting their
future career choice. Some brought props to demonstrate the work that they do. Many
occupations were represented by the students’ choices. Popular picks include,
teachers, police officers, engineers, doctors and other medical professionals,
businessmen, soldiers, seafarers, and flight attendants.
The program proper started at about 8:00 in the morning by an opening
prayer led by Mrs. Lilibeth F. Mirabete and followed by the singing of the National
Anthem conducted by Mrs. Clairenbel F. Falqueza. It was followed by an opening
remark given by Mr. Mario G. De la Cruz, Head Teacher III of Calatrava National High
School. Mr. De la Cruz advised the students to always trust God because He is the one
who will lead them to their dream profession.
The first speaker was introduced by Mrs. Mary Joy F. Famaran. She is
Ms. Angelika F. Fruelda, a licensed civil engineer and a registered master plumber. She
was a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Romblon State University.
She passed the Civil Engineering board examination last 2018. She earned her
experience for almost five years in a private construction company in Manila as project
engineer and she is now working as a freelance engineer.
The first speaker advised the students to choose the field where they
excel. If they want Mathematics, they must go for Engineering courses because 90% of
the Engineering subjects are Mathematics subjects. She is presently working in
construction company in Manila. She attended seminars and online trainings to gain
more knowledge about her field. She is a free-lance engineer. She prepares, draw plans
for residential and commercial buildings. She said that engineering has many
specializations like structural engineer that works with large buildings and bridges,
environmental engineer on the other hand, makes sure that the construction is safe for
the environment, geo-technical engineer studies the capacity of land in building
structures, and the rest are surveying engineer, construction engineer and
management, and municipal engineer.
The second speaker was introduced by Ms. Maricar R. Francisco, he
is Mr. Carlo C. Fetalvero, a businessman. Mr. Fetalvero told the students that he
wanted to be an astronaut when he was young. He dreamed of helping people in-need.
He enumerated his experiences while he was studying. His classmates parted ways,
out of twenty-one, ten was left in Electrical Engineering course and he was one of
those. He took examination in PMA and luckily, he passed. He was required to have a
physical examination. While studying, he worked as a security guard, then, as a cashier
in SM. He became independent while studying Criminology, where he shifted to after his
Electrical Engineering Course. Presently, he owned a construction firm. These are the
words he leave to the students: “Love your parents while they are still alive. It is the key
to success.”
After the speech of the second speaker, the visitors were entertained
by a dance number from Niel Andrei Falcutila and Rhyza Jade Faderogaya both Grade
12 students.
The third speaker was introduced by Mrs. Leonalisa T. Manes. She is a
native of Barangay Linao, Calatrava, Romblon. She’s the only child of Mr. and Mrs.
Ronnie Fodra Maestro. She spent her elementary grades at Linao Elementary School
and graduated in the year 2001. In the year 2005, she graduated in High School at
Romblon State College-Calatrava. She took up BS in Nursing at the Adventist
University of the Philippines and graduated in the year 2010. In the same year, she
successfully passed the nursing board exam. She worked at Rovillos Hospital for one
year. In the year 2015, she decided to apply as fire officer, another field of public service
that is also close to her heart. The third speaker was Ms. Ronnie Vee F. Maestro, Fire
Officer 3.
Ms. Maestro discussed to the students the different conventional
career interest. And these are some of the career interests:
1. Investigative Career Interest - it involves Mathematics and Science careers.
2. Artistic Career Interest – photographers, graphic designers, and make-up artists.
3. Realistic Career Interest – plumbers and fire fighters.
4. Enterprising Career- managers, recruiters, and lawyers.

According to her, in choosing a future career always ask yourself these


questions: “What are your values in life?” and “What is my personality type?”
The fourth speaker was introduced by Mrs. Jean Ruzzy F. Largueza.
She is PCPT Nanette Pablico of PNP-Calatrava. She was once a teacher but
dreaming to be a policewoman since child motivated her to pursue becoming a
policewoman. While in Philippine National Police she experienced many things. She
witnessed victims of different crimes, victims of vehicular accidents and cruelty from
NPA or the new people’s army. You should be brave if you choose to be a
policeman or policewoman. Policemen are good in decision-making. He must also
have integrity and strong leadership skills. Being a policewoman gave her
satisfaction. She wanted to help people with disputes and that is her passion. She
handled rape cases for many years.
She mentioned the following requirements for aspiring police officers.
He/she must be physically, mentally, and emotionally fit. He /she must be willing to
leave his/her family for one year training. He /she must be willing to duty 24/7
including holidays and special occasions. Being a police officer is not easy yet a very
fulfilling career. You can help poor and rich people without discrimination. You can
also serve and protect the people around you.

The fifth speaker was introduced by Mrs. Irish Faye F. Moreno. He is


Captain Jonard S. Motin. He shared his greatest secret in finishing his studies, that
is knowing his limits. He advised that when someone see that his studies are
compromised by the bad influence of friends and love life, slow down and go back to
the reasons why you are studying and why you need to succeed in your chosen
career. “If you control the game, you control the rebound.” He also enumerated the
requirements to be a Certified Mariner. You must complete three years academic
requirements in the course Marine Transportation or Marine Engineering and one
year apprenticeship. He told the students about his experiences while applying for a
job. He advised the students to “Never give up”. He was many times rejected and
ignored by many companies, but he never gave up until he found the right company
that helped him become the person he always dreamed to be.
After the speech of the last speaker, certificates were given to the five
resource speakers. Mr. Mario G. De la Cruz, Jr., Head Teacher III of Calatrava
National High School, Mr. Jobert S. Motin, Junior High School Career Advocate, and
Ms. Carolyn Lavinia Manzo, Senior High School Career Advocate facilitated the
awarding of certificates.
Closing Remarks was delivered by Mrs. Noemi Gay M. Fadriquelan,
Senior High School Coordinator.
The first part of the program ended smoothly at 11:23 in the morning.
The master of ceremony was Ms. Irish M. Villanueva, a Grade 11 teacher.
The second part of the program, the Search for Mr. and Ms. Pathways
of Beauty, started at 2:00 in the afternoon. It commenced by the introduction of the
judges and tabulators by Ms. Maricar F. Francisco. The following were the board of
judges: Mrs. Sharon F. Falqueza, chairman of the board, and the members were
Mrs. Noemi Gay M. Fadriquelan, Mrs. Lezel M. Dela Cruz, Ms. Shairmaine Frogosa,
and Mr. Jobert Motin. The tabulators were Ms. Kayzel Gado and Mr. Aljhon Mesa.
Afterwards, the criteria for judging were read by the chairman of the
Board of Judges, Mrs. Sharon F. Falqueza. After the reading of criteria, the sixteen
(16) candidates ramped their black, red, and white collections in their Production
Number. After the production number, series of intermission number were witnessed
by the audience. These are the song number from Kyp Jemuel Merano, a ballroom
dance from Grade 12- STEM-Valerian, and a dance number from Linao group Grade
12 students, After the intermission numbers were the presentation of each
candidate’s uniform attire and professional attire.
While waiting for the announcement of winners for the three categories
and the top 3 candidates, Zephaniah Fiedacan, a JHS student and Kyp Jemuel
Merano showed their talent in singing and amused the crowd. The top three
candidates were the following: 2nd Runner Up – Mr. Renz Gio Faderogaya (Male
Category) and Ms. Karylle F. Bastillador (Female Category), 1 st Runner Up – Mr.
John Phil Rubas (Male Category) and Ms. Blaine Rogon (Female Category) and Mr.
Niel Andrei Falcutila was crowned as Mr. Pathways of Beauty along with Ms. Marcia
Loriene Fajel who became the Ms. Pathways of Beauty.
Program was adjourned by a closing prayer led by Mrs. Jennifer D.
Fortu, a Grade 12 adviser. The afternoon program was hosted by Mr. Jester Gallos
and Ms. Claire Fabellar.
