Welcome to the English Grade 1 Self-Learning Module on Using Polite


Expressions in Leave Takings!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

LESSON

Let us read a short story about Cora. Let us find out why
people call her Polite Cora.

Polite Cora
Everyone likes Cora. She greets everyone with a smile.
She greets the guard in the school “good morning!” She
greets the principal “good afternoon!”, when she sees him,
and when classes are over, she says “goodbye” and “see
you” to everyone. At night, she greets father “good
evening!” and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
She hugs mother and says, “good night!”, before she goes
to sleep. Everyone likes Cora because she is polite.

Good bye, Good night, and See you are expressions


we use for leave takings. They are polite expressions that
we say to people before we leave them or before we go
to sleep. Being polite is one of the most valuable traits that
must be shown by a Grade 1 pupil like you. Politeness is an
act of being respectful and considerate of others. Aside
from leave takings, simple expressions like thank you, sorry,
and excuse me also show politeness.

Always remember, leave takings are polite expressions we


tell people before we leave them or before we go to
sleep. We use it to say goodbye or farewell to someone.
