The Simple Tenses
Tense How is it formed? Uses
Simple Singular S. + {V(infinitive) + s }+ ....... Facts, habits, routines, opinion, events that happen regularly: Present I eat breakfast every day. I/ You/ Plural S.+ V(infinitive) + ........ In a clause with: Future Tense: when she finishes this, I will go to sleep. Non-action verbs that can’t be used in a progressive tense: I know him. For scheduled events in the future, the simple present also can be used: The movie starts at 10:00 PM. Simple Past Singular/ Plural S.+ V(Past tense) + ......... The simple past tense describes actions or situations that began and ended at a particular time in the past: I ate breakfast yesterday. Simple S. + shall + V(infinitive)+ ......... Predictions: be going to/ will: It is going to/ will rain. Future Most Common: Prior plans: be going to: I am going to travel tomorrow. Singular/ Plural S.+ will + V(infinitive)+.. Willingness/ a decision the speaker makes at the moment of I + am going to + V(infinitive) +....... speaking: will: I’ll help you. Singular S. + is going to + V(infinitive) +... For definite plans about the future: the present progressive You/Plural S.+are going to+V(infinitive)+. tense can be used: I am travelling tomorrow. Sureness: For scheduled events in the future, the simple present also S. + will + probably + V(infinitive)+.. can be used: My flight arrives at 10. S.+be+probably+going to+ V(infinitive)+. Sureness: 100 % will, 90% add probably, or 50% add Maybe at S. + probably + will not+ V(infinitive)+.. the beginning or replace be going to/ will with May. S.+probably+ be not going to +V(infinitive)+.. S. + may (not) + V(infinitive)+..

The Progressive Tenses
Tense How is it formed? Uses
Present Progressive I +am+ {V(infinitive)+ ing} + ...... Expresses an activity that is in progress at the Singular S. + is+ {V(infinitive)+ ing} + ... moment of speaking. You/ Plural S.+are+{V(infinitive)+ ing}+ .. For definite plans about the future: the present progressive tense can be used: I am giving a lecture tomorrow. Past Progressive Singular S. + was+ {V(infinitive)+ ing} +... Two actions occurred at the same time, but one I/You/ Plural S. + were+ {V(infinitive)+ ing} +..... action began earlier and was in progress when the other action occurred.

The Perfect Tenses
Tense How is it formed? Uses
Present Perfect Singular S. + has+ {V(P.P.)} + ...... To talk about events that happened before now. I/You/ Plural S. + have+ {V(P.P.)} + .. The exact time is not specified. To express an event that has occurred repeatedly at unspecified time in the past. To talk about situations that began in the past and continued up to now. For non-progressive verbs, use the present perfect tense. Past Perfect Singular/ Plural S. + had+ {V(P.P.)} + ... To express an activity that was completed before another activity or time in the past.
The Perfect Progressive Tenses

Present Perfect Singular S. + has+ been +{V(infinitive) +ing} + ...... It expresses the duration of an activity that Progressive I/You/ Plural S. + have+been+ {V(infinitive) +ing} + ...... began in the past and continued to the present.
