D. EXPLAIN AND processes?
ELABORATE
Activity# 2
What happen to the food during chemical digestion?

(The teacher asks questions to develop critical thinking)

(The teacher discusses the organs that work together to aid

digestion)

Digestive system is composed of organs working together to get

nutrients from the food you eat. The food passes through a long tube
inside the body known as the Alimentary Canal or Gastrointestinal
Tract (GI). The alimentary canal is made up the oral cavity, pharynx,
esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

 mouth, where foods enter into the where digestion begins with
the aid of the teeth and tongue and mixed with the saliva. When
swallowed, food goes down to
 esophagus through a peristaltic movement leading to the
 stomach where food stays for several hours depending on the
kind and amount of food you eat.
 pancreas, produces pancreatic juice that neutralizes stomach
acid.
 Gastric Glands along the stomach wall

releases gastric juice which mixes with the food and breaks it
down into particles. Until the food is partly thick liquid called
smaller chyme will enter into the
 small intestine (the main organ of digestion) nutrient is
absorbed into the bloodstream with the help of • villi and
transfer to the cells to produce energy
 Liver, as the largest gland in the body secretes bile that helps
digest fats in the small intestine.
 large intestine or colon. Not all the food we eat can be
digested. Undigested food such as fiber of fruit and vegetables
and hard seeds goes to the large intestine that removes liquid
from the undigested food, leaving a solid mass of waste called
feces. Feces are pushed out of the large intestine into the
 Rectum last part of the large intestine where waste stays in there
until it passes out of the body by defecation through the
 anus the passage way of feces out of the body.

Generalization:

1. What are the organs that work together to aid digestion?

2. Why is food to be digestive?
3. How is food being used by the body cells?

E. Assessment
Match column A with column B. Letter only.
A B
1. Small intestine a. undigested food including water
goes
to this part
E. EVALUATING 2. Mouth b. stays here for several hours, this
LEARNING completes the digestive process
3. Esophagus c. food stay here for a definite period of
time, depending on their kind and
amount
4. Stomach d. receives the food you eat
5. Large intestine e. a tube wherein the food passes
through
into the stomach
