the blessings you gave us this day,
please forgive us of all our sins in Jesus
name. Amen.

Good morning class! Good morning Sir Jeric! Good morning

Avoid talking to your seatmates during
in class.

e. Review of past lessons Who among you can remember

our lesson yesterday?
Yes Hanna what was your past Sir last yesterday we studied about
lesson yesterday? characteristics and composition of stars

Very good Kyle Sir star is a fire ball burning in the space
What is star because of helium and hydrogen
Yes Sara
Sir star composes of hydrogen and helium.
That’s right.
What composes the star?

Do you think star is important?

Can you give me some of the
importance of the stars?
Yes Sir. It gives light to human
Sir. It gives light to animals.
Sir God is so amazing about creating stars
f. Motivations
as light in the sky

Will present a video about how a star

formed.

What can you say about the video?

It’s amazing Sir.
Do you think we can survive without
the stars?
Stars are one of the beautiful I think we can survive but our world
heavenly bodies. They have different becomes a world of darkness.
characteristics and formation.

During ancient times, people used

stars as their point of reference
when travelling. This is because stars
appear to be fixed in position. At
present, stars play an important role
in the field of astronomy. They are
used as guide in determining the
distance of a planet and the location
of heavenly body.

Star a very large ball of burning gas

in space that is usually seen from the
earth as point of light in the sky at
night.
Do you think children stars are
important?
Why did you say so? Yes Sir they are important.
Because Sir it gives us light in the night.
Stars differ in their sizes, colors and
temperature, distances from earth,
and brightness. Some of these stars
seem to form patterns in the sky.
In this lesson, you will learn the
different characteristics of star and
their names as well as the patterns
they form.

Have you tried comparing the stars

in a cloudless sky at night? How do
they differ in size, color, and Yes Sir some stars are bigger than the
brightness? other, some stars are more shining than
other stars, some are yellow, some are red
Very good! Your observation of the and others are blue.
sky are all correct, stars in the sky are
giant balls of hot gases. They differ in
color, brightness and size.
Let’s study the composition of stars
Stars are made of very hot gas. This
gas is mostly hydrogen and helium,
which are the two lightest element
stars shine by burning hydrogen into
helium in their cores, and later in
their lives create heavier elements
like carbon. Most stars have small
amounts of heavier elements like
carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and iron,
which were created by stars that
existed before them. After a star
runs out of fuel, It ejects much of its
material back into space. New stars
are formed from this material. So the
material in stars is recycled.
Our nearest star the Sun consists of
90% hydrogen and mixture of other
gases. In diameter, it is over 100
times bigger than the earth.

Can we travel in the star?

Maybe Sir.
I believed we can’t travel in the star
because stars are fire balls in the sky
we will get burn.

What are the parts of the stars?

The structure of a star can often be
thought of as a series of thin nested
shells, somewhat like an onion. A
star during most of its life is a main
sequence star, which consists of
1. Core
It is where all the nuclear
fusion takes place to power a
star.
2. Radiative
-energy from these reactions
is transported outward by
radiation, like heat from
light bulb,
3. And convective zones
Here the energy is
transported by the rolling of
hot gases like hot air from a
hair dryer.
4. A photosphere
The surface of the star
5. A chromosphere
A layer that looks reddish
because of all the hydrogen
found there. Finally, the
outermost, parts of a star is
the,
6. corona
B. Development

Scientists use different

characteristics of stars to distinguish
them from one another you have in
your bag.

Now, choose anything from your bag

and place it randomly on your table.
Describe it using the table below.
Share your work with the class later
on.

Sizes of the stars

Stars are of different sizes. They are

measured in diameters. Diameter is a
straight line that cuts a circle passing
through the center point. The
smallest known star has a diameter
of about 20 kilometers. The VY Canis
Major, one of the largest known star,
has a diameter of 1,975,000,000
kilometers. This is more than 100
times that of the sun.

Some stars are so large, yet they

cannot be seen by the naked eye
because they are too far away. The
sun is an average size star; it is the
star closest to earth, that is why we
can see it.

Star Size in Diameter in light year

Proxima Centauri 4.3
Sirius 8.8
Vega 26
Betelgeuse 300
Deneb 1,600

Star Color Temperature (*C

Betelgeuse Red 3000
Arcturus Orange 4000
Sun Yellow 6000
Vega White 10,000
Rigel Blue 20,000

A star is a massive, luminous sphere

of plasma held together by it own
gravity.

Classification of stars
*A young star is called a dwarf star. It
can be a yellow star, a white star or
red star.
*Older stars are called supergiants.
They can be red star or a blue star.

*Stars are classified according to

their temperature and brightness
into two categories.

HOT STARS
There are two types of hot stars:
a. Blue coloured stars
b. White coloured stars
COOLER STARS
There are two types of cooler stars:
a. Red coloured stars
b. Oranged coloured stars

How are stars are born?

Star are formed from giants clouds of

dust and gas. From gravity, the cloud
collect to form a rotating gaseous
ball. Once the new star gets enough
it begins to create energy from a
process called nuclear fission. This
create energy allows the star to glow
for billions of years.

Where are stars born?

Stars are formed in the eagle nebula

Why do stars emit heat and light?

Children why do you think stars emit
heats? Sir maybe because it’s their way of
Nice try, but stars emit heat and light releasing their heat
as they are a big nuclear reactor just
like our sun.

Why do stars produce white

coloured light?
* Actually stars don’t produce white
light coloured light they produce
light which is seven colours present
in the rainbow. They combine to
form white colour, this is also
happens with the sunlight as the sun
is also a star.

Why do stars twinkle? Sir maybe stars don’t twinkle it’s

because of our eyes as we close it
Nice try but stars really do twinkle and open it.
because of the sacks of warm and
cold air present in the atmosphere.
Because of these disturbances in the
oath of light produced by the stars
they seem to twinkle.

What are shooting stars?

*A shooting star is not a star that
falls from the sky it is just a
misconception. The shooting stars
are the meteoroid that burns when
comes in the Earth’s atmosphere.

How does a star dies?

*A star dies when it runs out of gases
to burn, first it expands into a red,
super giant and it explodes.

C. Group Activity
You are going to have a group
activity this time with your group
mates you’re going to have a group
singing with action it is fine if you use
tagalog song or English song.
 Presentation of output
 Giving of Comments for
improvement
 Giving of points

A. Independent Activity. Analyze each statement. Write TRUE if the statement is

true and FALSE if the statement is FALSE.
________1.The amount of stars in the universe is one million.
________2. Stars are created just to light up the sky

________3. All colors of stars have the same temperature.

________4.the sun is as big as the earth.

________5. The moon gets light from the sun it actually has no light in itself.

Application: We can derived a lot of important things from the stars, a star can contribute to our lives
most importantly it gives as light during day time so that we can see clearly everything around us; our
crops also need sun light for photosynthesis so that they can cook their foods so we can say that sun’s light
is one of our necessity and our lives will become miserable with a star light or sun light, knowing this we
must be thankful to our creator who also the creator of sun and our planet where we are living now, He is
the one behind all these wonderful things.

E.Evaluation:
Identify the word being described in each sentence from column B
Column A Column B.

1. It gives an idea of the size of a star. a. light year

2. This is equal to about six trillion kilometers B. apparent magnitude
3. It gives an idea of the size of a star C. Brightness
4. It is the distance light travels in one year. d. 1 light year
5. it is not the color of star E. Orange
f. indigo
